So it looks like westerlylad's engine would be mid to late 1980s. (A rather new one!)
Hardly run in! ?
So you suspect my dv20 may be a mid to late 1980's version. That's good to know.
I now wonder who has the last dv20 to be produced and when that was?
Sadler I think. My 1984 Sadler 34 had a DV20 from new but I remember reading in a piece by Mike Lucas that they changed for the reasons you mention. I have come across a variety of other engines in later boats, including Volvos and others.Bukh engine output - and hence the pace of serial sequential numbers climbing - fell significantly for a spell during the early/mid1980s, I believe. I know that Bukh got into financial difficulties around that time, and some boatbuilders (at least LM (Danish) and a British company I've forgotten, perhaps Westerly?) switched to other engine suppliers because of difficulties/uncertainty of supply. The Bukh company was then bought out/rescued in c1985, presumably allowing production to ramp back up again, and development of further ranges beyond the mighty DV series.
. . . I wonder how many are still running and when the last one will finally bite the dust!
