Old flares and bonfire night ?

Shame your chandler won't co-operate on the out of date flares. They really should take responsibility for such products at all stages.

Looking at pyrotechnics from all angles, surely if they were invented today they would be banned before they got to the gangplank! In common with many, I carry them, somewhat warily; but having used them in demo situations, I would not gladly step up to the rail and "hit the handle"

5 Years ago I got an EPIRB. Not cheap, but the responsible way to go to sea, I believe.

Good luck

When on an MFV whilst in the RN Cadets, we were told never to mess with out of date flares.

Mind you this was by the same skipper that was regulary supplied with copious amounts of ammunition (by the RN) that was past its "use by date" with the sole puprose of blasting as much of it as possible at an old fender towed behind said MFV.

I guess some of the rules have been tightened up since I was in the cadets (over 20 yrs ago now)
