Old engines, what are they worth?

This is in no way an attempt to sell, i'm just trying to work out what the two VP lumps I have taking up valuable space in my shed are worth.

I have one Volvo Penta MD1B: complete bottom end and loose head and cylinder block and a seized VP MD1B with a loose MD11 cylinder block and head. There are also a collection of various parts, new engine mounts, dynastarts, exhaust elbows etc

The thing is that I've just had the heads and exhaust manifolds for both engines welded and reworked at a cost of £300 and so I don't want to lose out but the whole lot has got to go in order to make space and give a little extra cash to go towards the new engine fitting.

Any ideas on the a reasonable cost to put the lot on boats and outboards?

Thanks loads,

James

It seems that there are a number of people looking for old engines. I put my Volvo md2b on eBay and boats and outboards and had an offer which I accepted. I then had several enquiries about it so the interest was there. The guy who bought it came from Lancashire to Essex to collect it. He wanted it for parts (which was just as well as it was in pieces!)
There is a company in Southern England which will buy your engine then re-sell it after doing it up. All you have to do is put it on a pallet for their carrier to collect. Can't remember the name at the moment.

Put them on ebay with realistic starting prices. Divide up the items into various lots and list as ' spares or repair'. Dynastarts fetch reasonable money for instance.

If you use ebay, you can search for a similar item and refine the search to show only completed auctions. Can't tell you exactly how as this feature is accessed as it's not available on mobiles (which I'm using at the moment) but it's fairly obvious. This will give you an idea of their worth. A good engine can fetch a couple of thousand.

I got £300 for my old MD7A. It had a new starter motor, but just about everything else was covered in rust because the cockpit floor was rotten and it basically lived outside for 5 years before I got the boat. Mine you, it ran perfectly well.

No ideas if this was a good price but I was happy at the time.
