I have to ask because at first sight my immediate thought was bul..it.

You may well be right I assumed they were treated but the evidence shows that my pallets only lasted three years in contact with the ground,but the bit not in contact is quite alright and in use to this very day

Proper ones are stamped on 2 sides as well. Some have a metal label to indicate load capacity.
The ones Wandsworth quote as 5 euros are possibly bits of c..p nailed up by some cowboy firm & would not be acceptable to many hauliers ( Spanish excluded of course).
There are quite detailed EURO standards for pallet constuction.Imagine a haulier with a stack of items say 2-3 pallets high in a vehicle & the bottom pallet collapses to one side, Then the driver has to get the load moved off the lorry when the other pallets no longer align horizontal for the forklift truck forks

Indeed a huge difference in quality between EU, US APC, AirFreight and disposal pallets.
To me none of them should make a bonfire.

In the circumstances I expect pallets in colours other than blue would not be allowed, especially green.

The blue pallets are CHEP pallets, a leasing based pallet which are sourced from and returned to various designated depots. Expensive and of a guaranteed quality but you can be sure that nothing in those burning alters to bigotry was actually paid for.
I can't imagine that the Orange lads would want any "Euro" pallets in their bonfires, but given the mentality I doubt they'd realise.
