Following on from 'Which is best Antifoul' - I went to a lecture about early seafaring in the Arabian Gulf. 6000 years ago they used reed bundle boats - sealed with a Pitch/Lime mix. The archeologists had found small pitch chunks with barnacles on them, and they were speculating how far the boats could have gone to generate the level of growth.
vic_berner mentioned Tim Severin - and a wooden boat coated with a pitch/lime mix. Clearly if pitch/lime makes a good antifoul - the boats could have travelled a lot further for the given Barnacle growth.
Anyway I offered to float the idea on the PBO site, and feed back any info that resulted.
Regards John M
P.S. I am definately going to try Lanolin on my prop - after reading all about it!
