Old £50 bank notes

Hi all if you have the old £50 notes with a Mr HOUBLON on them they have to be used by end of APRIL this year!! This from the Bank of England. After this date they will be worthless in shops etc.

After this date they will be worthless.

They won't be worthless, they will be worth £50 - they won't be legal tender. Several banks will exchange them up until the end of October, after that the Bank of England will always exchange them. As it does for any old, no longer used, note.

Notes are not legal tender, they are a promissory note. As such, they cannot be cancelled.

A few hundred counterfeit ones have been detected at the Basel (German-Swiss) border by a spot check. They have been, of course, the banknote of choice for drug money laundering since their introduction as their value exceeds the previous preference, the $100 (USD).

The Sfr 1000 (CHF) has always been a contender as the highest value banknote generally in circulation but without sufficient volume to accommodate the vast sums involved.

Notes are not legal tender

Bank of England £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes are legal tender for any amount in England and Wales. Well, that's what the Royal Mint thinks, anyway.
