Seen a couple of moody carabineers, one 44 the 47 feet, I know these boats alittle, what I want to know is do they sail, I know they are a motor sailer, but what percentage? I like the look of them and know they wee well put together. Is the 47 that much BIGGER than the 44 or is there not much in it? These two are in the states and are a very reasonable price, very well equiped with everything I would need. Opinions and advice please.

Dont know anything much about them only that I have fancied one (Moody carribineer) for a long time, they look like a proper boat, due to their being early Moody (I owned a 29 for a while and it was well put together and sailed fairly well for a bilge keel) also that they have an inner steering position, I considered a fisher but found that they sailed poorley to wind as do many of their kind. I also looked at a Westerley Konsort with the wheel house but preferred the Moody. as for size I would Guess that there is a bit less maintenence than on Englander, except such things as Osmo etc, but I would go for the bigger one as a live aboard if not too much more expensive. interesting that you have located them in the states.

watch yer lip, young lady! Well actually the 44 and the 47 have the same waterline legth, which is strange!! But if I'm going to downsize from Englander, I still want a fair amount of space, to sail away in! I'm also looking at a nauticat 44, also in the states, they are cheap over there!

Two points.
Somehow or other - which ever way you look at at, the 47 will be a few feet longer than the other one.
Second point - something serious - I've known of 2 of them quite well - one was in Fleetwood but spent a fair bit of time in Glasson - so you've probably seen it. Belonged to a bloke with an engineering firm which he sold and then his wife sloped off once the cash was in the bank - German I think, nice but flighty - , the other is called Suilven and is in Kilmelford. Both had serious Osmosis problems and Suilven has had its botty stripped and is being re-rendered as I type.
I think they probably go like trains off the wind but are not up to their favourite pastimes when trying to beat - just like Claymores

Thanks me old china bowl! I had heard there was a problem with the bums of these boats, thanks for reminding me! I have also seen a rather nice 44 nautipussy in USofA aswell, considerably cheaper than this side of the great divide! Will check it out, but I've also heard horror stories of rigging fittings pulling out of nthe deck on these, maybe earlier ones and rot in the plywood wheelhouses. But I dont know when they stopped the wooden wheelhouse. Will try and find out. Thanks again!

There's a Carbineer (46 I think) that I ogle at regularly in Deauville. Absolute pristine condition with two of everything : radars, satcoms, etc.

Beautiful boat.

Not that this helps.

Barcelona......

Thought you wos supposed to be at home on the pop this week.
If so, have you just come back from Alex's to be on the net at 0600?????????
Remember its the boat show. Can you not go to the Moody dealer with a decent shirt on and give him the bullshit about buying a new one. Of course you need a test sail.
