"that was the second time in a week someone came over with drink!"

Note that they didn't expect any drink to be proffered...!

And here's me thinking that you would be heading for Fleetwood at warp speed/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Nah -its this annual debate I have with myself - having the boat in Melfort gives me a reason to escape domestic duties on winter weekends - you'd be amazed at the number of family gatherings I've managed to avoid under the name of 'Winter Maintenance'

I'm changing the name of my boat to Claymore if this is a guarantee of free booze whenever you moor up! All i get are rude raftees. .. In Poole last weekend rafted up 7 out at 1am, party on charter boat in middle, skipper of that says " I'm leaving at 7:30 am so that makes you leaving at 7:15am." What a pillock, as it happens I was planning to leave at that time anyway but 1) What unecessary rudeness 2) it was the raft at the end of the quay, open behind, and if he did'nt know how to extract himself from a raft in that situation without disturbing people, he shoul'nt have rafted up at all but found a marina berth, buouy or anchored somewhere unless of course he knew as much about these tecniques as he had manners!!

What a difference from the guy we rafted up on at Weymouth, arrived at 4am. Fenders were on boat, he told the harbourmaster collecting money not to disturb us, as we'd got in at 4am. Fortunately there's a lot more of the latter sort than the former

Before everyone goes off naming their boat Claymore - I feel I ought to point out that suave charm and genuine open honest friendliness are the keys to my success is having drink thrust upon me from every quarter whenever we are out.
Standing on the sidedeck hands ready to accept lines, fenders already in place so that others may raft alongside and my specially designed "Children and Dogs Welcome alongside this boat" pennant flying from the correct side of the crosstrees - with Tigger and Pooh emblazoned on a field of argent ensure that I get all the rightly grateful people surrounding me and they generally see their opportunity to repay my excessive kindness and bonhomie by plying me with the drink.
I've been known to take people away on sailing weekends and stunned by the generosity of the gesture they've even made a point of bringing fishing tackle with them so that I may dine from the spoils of Mother Ocean - I shlould point out that unbeknown to us - the fish were all on a diet that particular time and so were not eating bait - luckily I always keep a cauliflower in the bilges so we didn't starve.
Yes - indeed - Claymore is a good name - but it needs to be backed up by incredible personal qualities.

Hmm .. on the other hand its boats called Claymore other than the real Claymore who're getting all the freebies so its maybe your deodarant that's working against you? Have you considered attending Slick Nick's school of gay wit and social repartee?

Oh - I'd love to do a course if there is one you can think of.
We're just sorting out timetables right now so anything that ran on a Friday would be very good really as I'm not at my best for teaching - particularly after around 10:30 a.m.
Not a great lover of deodorants really - a quick puff of the old Johnson's Baby on the cluster and washing the charmpits each month seems more than enough. Don't want to damage my natural oils

Re: niggly little jobs

Hi only tarty runner I have seen since the race is Dave Ferrier and he is busy re building an house he has nearly distroyed. He has also been working in Germany. I saw Alex at Glasson just before they were due to depart for Largs and the Hotel Claymore. Hope they have had a great time and Alex has done well in the race.
Next time you are down this way we must have a pint or two.
Mike.
