Oil - where to buy?

Where's best to buy engine oil on the South Coast (hopefully near to Hamble) without being charged a fortune?

I need some 60 litres of SAE 15W-40 to API CG-4/SH

Shell have a mail order option, can't find the details but you can run them down via www.shell.com, there's a main office contact number there and they'll give you the mail order line.

I purchase oil in 25 litre containers - its VS-2 and VS-3 approved etc. Cost is about £5.50 per litre (others were charging £17.50 a litre for the same oil!!!).
You can get it from any Shell depot - I just went to the place that delivers my central heating oil and purchased it there.

Local fuel delivery firm. Might be in own lable drums. But oil just as good. Get the right spec. to suit yer engines.

Commercial components in St John's Road Hedge End are about closest to Hamble ofr big 25 ltr tubs.

If your happy with a lesser branded product, like carplan etc, but still want SJ or similar spec you could try the car parts shop in woolston opposite the old Vosper site, it worked out nealry the same price as buying 25 litre ones but with the advantage that 5 litre ones are much easier to handle.

OK this should suit you,. Southampton on the Itchen west bank by the Dryberth yard near TVS building, CP Lubricants, Tel 02380-337800. 25 Litres Turbomaster 15-40( Volvo spec oil) costs £35.54p including VAT Ring before visiting.

I was recommended Shel Rimula, but never see it in motor factor

Shell rimula is ideal - its VS-2 and VS-3 complaint and so is highly suitable for and approved forVolvo engines.

Thanks to everyone who has replied.

From the info I made contact with "Andrew" from Shell, who recommended Rimula X, as meeting the required spec. 01603 779011.

Price - 1.10p per litre 10.00 delivery to the door.

A saving of some huge magnitude!

I will also be ordering the appropriate gearbox oil and greases, as well.
