I've used my Pela to get water from the bilge, using the small diameter flexible metal pipe. I believe that caused corrosion in the pipe and ultimately blocked it. A plastic suction tube would obviously be fine. Anyone else had the same problem?

I use a Pela pump on my Volvo TAMD41P engine. I believe it holds 11 litres but I never get more than 6 or 7 litres out. Do I try to find a longer extraction pipe or has anyone found another solution?
The Volvo Tamd series have a seperate oil suction pipe to attach to sealed by a small black rubber bung. That's the best way.

Some enigenes have a drain hose fitted from factory (my Nanni's have a steel tube route to the top of the engine).

A retrofit can be done if you want, but you need to get to your drain plug (once) to fit it.

Not in any way connected, just a happy costomer (2 cars for oil, 2 boat entinges for coolant).
Mentioned before when discussing coolant draining/collecting but here goes:

Hi. Nothing in my handbook about that. Can you show me where it is on the tamd41 please
Pretty certain all the early 40 and 41 had a dedicated drain pipe ?
The red plastic thingy is the dipstick sans its top loop bit and drain is just to the right.
Drain normally sealed off with little plastic cap or whatever is handy when the proper cap mysteriously vanishes when dropped into the bilges.
Just poke the thin pipe that comes with your 12 v electic pump inside the drain pipe until it hits the bottom and then pull out a fraction.
Best done when pipe is cold and rigid, can feel it hit bottom of sump.

Anybody who even thinks about pumping petrol should not be let near anything that cannot be found in a nursery ? :):):)

Thanks but my 41p does not have that extraction/drain pipe, probably because my dipstick tube goes to the bottom of the sump so no point in having both.

Force 4 are selling seago oil extractors, same capacity as a pela but much less than half the price of a pela.

Discussed here before.

Most people are happy with the vacuum, no power, silent type. Various capacities, commonly some 6 litres.

One brand is Pela - several alternatives around. Google "oil suction pump" and see :)
Pela is pretty foolproof and does the job. Best get one with sufficient capacity for the job..Can be used to extract or clear up any other types of spills. Recommended.
