I have a stain from over enthusiastic application of oil to a top swivel of inmast sail. It has been there a couple of years so presumably well set in.
Any good ideas for removing this- I feel if I am not careful I could just end up with less black but bigger mark?

A light hydrocarbon is a good solvent but possibly not easily obtainable in UK. In France we can buy C6 and C8 solvents at any Brico. Petrol may stain itself thanks to all the additives. Lighter fluid would be good but does it still exist?

Acetone is not a good oil solvent

On a similar theme - a couple of years ago I got oil on a soft shell jacket. “Elbow Grease” the yellow cleaner in all supermarkets got it out easily. Far less likely to damage the material than the likes of acetone

Paint brush cleaner is my first stop for all these sorts of stains it's good and you can wash it off with water
