Hi all

Looking for any advice here. Did a long stretch from Yarmouth to Salcombe. Rough seas and pretty bumpy.

On checking my engine bay on arrival I saw engine oil. Not masses, perhaps an egg cup full.

Noticed that my dipstick was loose and evidence of spray there. So I either left it ucipped or it came off.

Anyhow, I cleaned up the oil, checked all areas such as the heat exchanger and basically everything around the filters and no sign of a Leak.

On the filter side of the engine (dipstick side) I removed the filter and it was really oily in filter and casing so cleaned it up. This led me to believe the Leak was due to the dipstick not being in place.

Have done 2 hour long runs since and on inspection I see a drop of oil, literally not more than that, under the air filter housing.

So... question is. Is this just residue from the loose dipstick incident, or is there anywhere else the oil could be coming from around the air filter area? I'm hoping is just the aftermath!!!!

Note, the dipstick tube where it adjoins the engine seems fine and dry.

Engine is a VP D4 260 running 300 hrs.

Thanks

Jonathan

Hi , nothing to worry about, the engine breathes into the air box from the breather filter housing , after along hard run you sometimes get oil inside the housing. Just check the oil level .

When we had Volvos (D12s), initially, I used the Volvo oil.
Got loads of oil from the breathers.
Then we switched to Shell Rimula and the oil leaks round the breathers just went away.
I suspect that the Volvo branded stuff is really cheap and prone to foaming.
The Shell oil seems to me to be less likely to foam.
Anyway, I've stuck to Shell Rimula - been using it for about 11 or 12 years now.

Just a thought - Volvopaul - is there anything in what I say/experienced?
