Anyone had a similar experience?
Not my boat yet? I know where it can come from just wondered if anyone else has
had the same problem, it also has had a very poor welded repair to the heat exchanger.
And No 2 engine signs of crystallisation in filler tank sounds expensive?

Having maintained the family boat with two of these, for the last 17 years…I’d personally say or suggest that these engines are incredible things.
but as with any machinery item…if it’s been suffering from lack of maintenance, things can go astray.
If you have oil in the coolant, presumably showing as evident in the internal coolant header tank…it would most likely indicate that you have a compromised issue at one of the few interfaces where such a thing can occur.
that would be the oil cooler, at the most optimistic minded thinking…or perhaps the cylinder head or it’s adjacent interfaces, with regards to coolant to oil interfaces. Having been fairly familiar with these particular things for nearly 2 decades now…I’d say she would need to have seen some fairly horrible levels of neglect to get to that stage. Are you sure that there is definitely oil in the coolant ? Sorry to ask and presume layman understanding.

Hi thanks for the reply, I do have quite a bit of experience with diesels, we have the same conclusions just wondered f it as a common problem with volvos .
But in this case neglect or abuse is probably the reason. will keep looking.

It's not too scary to find oil in the coolant. But scary if you found coolant in the oil. Could this be possible to happen both at the same time? Better double-check?

Oil in coolant, head gasket or failed oil cooler

Oil in coolant
Oil in coolant, head gasket or failed oil cooler
My guess too was sure if they were wet liners in them?
Was concerned about the weld down the end of the heat exchanger didn't look like a place you would see a crack, and there was crystals in the header tank, on the port engine, not a job I want anymore.
