I have just serviced my twin TAMD60C engines and have a constant leak from one of the oil filters no matter how tight I screw it up.I have cleaned the face of the filter housing on the engine and smeared the o ring on the filter with fresh oil but to no avail. The first filter I fitted was a MAN but when I couldn't get a seal I purchased genuine Volvo filters but I have exactly the same problem. Before I start to remove the filter housing are there any people out there who have experienced the same problem and could give me further advice.......many thanks.

I'm sure you have checked, but did the old filt seal come away with the filter. If its still stuck on the filt housing it will leak no matter how tight you do it up.

Sorry, that the only thing I can think of in my flu riddled state!

Have you checked:
The filters you have fitted are the same as the one you took off to ensure you are fitting Like for like??
The new ones are not cross threaded?
The leak is not from somewhere other than the filter??

Nice one Neale, that is a common oversight
Slight fwed dwift
Now about your flu
Take 2 Beechams 8 times a day, followed by or with, half a pint of Hot Toddy , Brandy or Whiskey
If you wake up the room will be still be spinning but the flu will have disappeared!
:encouragement:

Sounds like a split in the filter housing head or on the oil cooler maybe? Is it on the easy to see engine ie port engine or starboard engine? You may be mistaken where it's actually coming from.

On on of my TAMD60C I had a weep from the mounting block above the filters where it attaches to the oil cooler. This manifested as oil gathering in the recess in the top of the filter cannister.

I found there are two allen bolts mounted inside the oil filter circle attaaching the housing to the oil cooler that can only be accesed with the filters off.

A quick nip up and no problem since. But worth a check with an inspection mirror that there is no muck or scratches on the sealing surface.

That is a something i will check as i have cleaned the filter head rim with wire wool and emery cloth but to no avail and the symptom is the same with oil filling the recess of the filter, many thanks.

Eventually I stopped the leak by pinching up the filter much tighter than I would have expected and having completed several trips no oil has leaked out. Many thanks for all your suggestions.
