The 'beauty' of lip seals is that they almost never 'let go' totally. As the tip of the lip wears it will slowly begin to weep fluid, giving plenty of warning of failure. Even when in a very worn state the amount of water getting into the boat should be manageable for a long time.[/QUO
They have let go well at least the rear 2 which resulted in the oil reservoir over flowing into a locker covering everything, the front held so wasn't a problem but I'm on the last part of serviceable shaft for the seals, I'd rather have a stuffing box I can repack at sea.
