For reasons I won't go into my beta 20 gear box no longer has an oil drain plug...

Can anyone recommend a decent oil extractor pump.

Thanks..

The Pela ones are the usual weapon of choice, I've used one & it worked fine, haven't used any other type...

I bought one from Screwfix. it looks exactly the same as a Pela but I cannot get it to hold a vacuum. For that reason Id not recommend the Screwfix Pela lookalike.

+1 for the Pela 6 litre which I have had for 7 years, also use it for draining my ZF 10 hydraulic gearbox oil, and draining my diesel fuel tanks as the hose is long enough to go down from the deck outside filler to the tank bottom

+ another one. The plea 6 litre is sold under other trade names e.g. Sealey, which was the one I bought. Great for sucking all sorts of things from inaccessible places, but if used for salty water flush through with some dirty oil afterwards to keep the pump valves from corrosion.

When removing the hose from the dipstick tube don't let the end flick as it exits. Don't ask me how I know this to be a PITA to deal with especially with beige wall carpets !

Tell me about it, you only hopefully do it once !:)

I seem to be in the minority but I bought one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRANSFER-...797441?hash=item339a581b01:g:OYcAAOSwQTVWA8e9

It empties the sump of 4L in about 30 seconds straight into an old water bottle which I then empty into the oil barrel at the marina and throw the water bottle away. When I've finished I put 50 ml of white spirit or diesel or meths in an old jar and put the inlet and outlet into the jar and pump it round for a couple of minutes which cleans everything up nicely. I also use it to pump diesel out of the 20L jerrycans into the fuel tanks and sometimes vice-versa. Takes a couple of minutes.

I got a 12v one from Lidl for £12, looks similar to the eBay one, been good so far... Had to use it on a boat with a 20l sump capacity, that took about half an hour!!
