Or maybe the smaller, cheaper Pela one like I have been using for some 14 years; wonderful bits of equipment ( the price on the one indicated is attractive, I'd buy that now I'm a little richer than I was 14 years ago !!)

I've made a few a attachments for mine to allow easy extraction of water from the bilge etc.

Thanks, may I ask why you prefer a manual type pump over an electric one, my experience of manual pumps in the past have not been very good, once they suck up a bit of air they tend to take ages to get primed and start sucking again or is this just because I have only used cheap manual pumps in the past.

Yes thats the one I use its slow but just dont watch it and it does a great job. I have TAMD. Volvos which have a dedicated tube at the side if the dip stick. I changed the take off pipe to the pump so it seals around the outside of the draw off tube which seems to speed it up.

Just to add that make sure you run the engine to reach the running temperature first. You will notice that the first 4-5ltr will come so quickly and the pump sucks the oil really smoothly. the last 3-4 ltr probably takes three times longer to come out. Mainly because by that time the engine has got cooler and you will also need to play with the hose which you have inserted into the engine to suck from different locations in the pan.

Also, have plenty (I mean plenty!) of blue rolls as things can get messy.
 
And don't let the end flick as you pull it out of the dipstick tube, especially if you have beige wall and floor carpets. Don't ask me how I know this !

A wrap of SA tape or blob of plasticine helps seal the tube to the dipstick pipe.
 
I have a pela 650 as mentioned by MartynG. These are used by the Solent's major Yanmar dealer: their engineers use them with the engine cold and frankly don't get as much of the oil out in the time they allow as I'd ideally like. I found the advice in this thread to be excellent, especially post #13:

*Not* running the engine before draining the oil makes changing the oil filter easier. Trying to suck up cold oil by just sticking the pela tube down the dipstick hole requires a lot of patience. Rigging up a piece of pipe which fits snugly over the dipstick hole, providing a seal which turns the whole dipstick hole into a suction tube completely changes the game: many times faster.

But will leave oil in sump? i.e the stick is longer than the tube.!!

It all depends on the engine. My Volvo dipstick tube does go to the bottom of the sump so I put a hose over the top of the tube to pump out, others have a separate tube dedicated for sucking out that goes to the bottom of the sump and on others the dipstick tube does not go to the bottom of the sump so you have to stick a small hose down inside the dipstick tube.

My V8 petrol VP engines had a large threaded end on the dipstick tube ( BSP or close enough American equivalent). I fitted a 3/8" ID tube to the cap for the Pela with an adaptor matching the end of the dipstick tube. Very rapid extraction of hot oil; the last dregs taken out using the standard small diameter tube pushed into the dipstick tube.
