Found this whilst chasing broken impellor vanes.

Vanes found in entrance to oil heat exchanger as expected but what is the white stuff and what is the grey (metallic?) stuff? Both these were found at the exit of the oil heat exchanger. The grey looks like old anode material but this cooler is directly after the water pump and there is no anode there!

Do you mean the water heat exchanger rather then oil?

It looks like fairly normal for raw water debris - pump vanes, anode and intake grit which can collect at the heat exchanger ends? If not anode it could be calcification build up from inside a pipe in the raw water system - hard but will crumble.

Check the filter on your water intake, the pump impeller for missing vanes (and renew) and clean/check the tube stack.

But if it's oil system debris it's probably serious and beyond my experience.
