Oil absorbent pads recommendation

Just curious, any particular reasons to only remove oil and leave water in a bilge? Even after absorbing oil, water remains so dirty that pumping it out would create all sort of iridescent hue on the surface.
I think just that oil absorbing products are different to water ones. Nappies are best for water

Oil absorbing pads are hydrophobic so that they maximise the oil absorbing capability and float on top of water where the oil will be in an oil and water spill. You can get pads that absorb both oil and water. Very likely it would be a good idea to have both if dealing with an oil spill in a boat with water environment. On larger vessels removing oil only allows the water that is contaminated to be treated by the oil water separator before disposal overboard.
