I used to have a 25lb CQR, but got it hooked on a trot - grrr /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I tried a 20lb CQR - I can't afford a new 25lb and there weren't any second hand at the boat jumble I went to, but it kept dragging for some reason. I still have this, so any suggestions as to why I can't trust it to hold a couple of tonnes of Snapdragon 24 for lunch, let alone overnight, would be welcome

Now I have a good-sized Delta that a mate pulled up from the seabed with his anchor a few years ago.

The CQRs parked a treat on the little pads on the foredeck, but the Delta, while a great anchor, is a sod to store. It can't live on the bow roller 'cos I need that for the mooring chain, so any suggestions?

I have mine in the port anchor locker with the three balloon fenders, a couple of buckets and the petrol can. I keep my danforth on the stbd locker with the 8 normal fenders. tee hee

Presumably you are happy to hang it when you are under way, can you not just lash it down at the mooring or build a wooden mould to suit it where you kept the CQR.

Something definitely up if the 20lb wont grip at all, cheap copy?

Since I am a long-time happy user and sometimes advocate of the CQR, I had better respond to this one: Your 20lb is probably dragging because you do not have sufficient chain on the ground before you start pulling it. That is a common mistake which I fequently see charter boats making: when advised to recover the anchor, clear it of the weed collected, re-lay and pay out plenty chain before putting any load on the anchor, then they are secure!
For small yachts, the often-recommended '5m chain and nylon warp' is not good for this anchor: I use 13m chain then nylon for my 'light' rode; 27m plus 10m of heavier chain for the 'heavy' one, and that set up has held me through a number of violent storms.

Cheap copies of CQR are notorious for breaking / failing to hold. If it doesn't say 'Genuine CQR' on the shank it's a fake. The main causes of failure to hold are incorrect hinge angle and incorrect weighting.
