oh go on then... one last YM question.....

Once again this shows a distinct lack of foresight!

If there's no wind at all then you don't have anything much to worry about. If there is some wind then you need to get the boat moving again - backing the headsail should enable you to pivot turn the boat and then you could gain headway, gybe and reach out to the greater pressure.

As you were hard on the wind when you lost pressure, the cliff can't be dead downwind, so a broad reach on the appropiate tack would take you away from the cliff

[/ QUOTE ]I agree, this character, whoever he is, does like getting himself into a pickle doesn't he....

Been fun though... I always enjoy thrashing ideas like these around.... they make for a better sailor, as it forces you to really think about 'why and what'........ Thay are a lot easier to answer when you've written the question around 1 particular issue/problem yourself though!

We should do more of it.

Well its obvious innit?

Fire up the lap top, hold it above your head on the foredeck to get the wifi signal, ask the veritable font of knowledge of the scuttlebutters what to do, and sit back and await the answer. With a cup of tea.

Simple, really.

Yes MC, it has ben good, but you must be more carefull, all these situations you keep getting youself into, you wont be able to ask us for help always you know! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I totally agree - thanks for posing the questions.

I find a learn a lot from some of the theoretical discussions on SB (yes - even the COLREGS ones /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

The more thought you've given to such situations in the comfort of your armchair the more prepared you will be should we ever be in that position for real.
