For those that are interested I'm off to the London Clinic again as complications have rather overwhelmed my ability to cope with almost anything.
So loads more tests, scans, injections, endoscopy etc. Probably followed by more risky surgery.
Looks like bigger boat is off until we know whats going on, no point in lumbering Nicky with the problem, will try & get existing one up for sale soon, but I can't deal with it.
Anyone recommend an HONEST broker who doesn't want 50% commission & actually has half a chance of disposing of her, I have spoken to some wide boys recently & would rather let it rot than use them.

What about BCU aka Essex Boatyards? Have always found James and the gang v straightforward to deal with.
 
JD yachts at weymouth have a good reputation, as does James Dickens at Hythe.
Hugh at Berthon is also very good.

I think most will charge you 8%, though you might be able to negotiate down to 5-6%.
With regard to giving it away, I guess its a case of so you want to actually sell it or just list it? I dont know what value BCU put on it so of course they may be well out.
With weak sterling Id use a broker who will market in Italy at least, and the wider med because that is the boat's natural market place

Id give the three brokers listed above a call and see what values they reckon.

If you want a cheap good broker WHY Yachts have a good reputation for a fair price - fixed fee for getting it on Yachtworld up to full service for about 3% I think.
Hope the prognosis is better than you expect and you can get back onto the road to recovery at some point
 
BCU I am told think £130k, another broker offered her to someone as an exchange for a deal for £160k, despite not having been instructed, a major player !!!! Can't go into detail as I'm not supposed to know !!!!

Bugger indeed. V sorry to read this. Agree with seastoke. Forget about the boat. Probably wrong time of year to sell anyway. Get yourself well first and think about the boat later

With regard to brokers, I've sold a few boats in my time through brokers. Forget about whether the commission is 6% or 8% or whatever. Far more important is whether the broker has a proven track record of selling your type of boat and therefore you have the best chance of maximising the price. When push comes to shove and an offer is on the table the broker will often shave his commission to make a deal happen anyway so 8% is often just a starting point
 
Pete sorry to hear of your condition, as others have mentioned you don't need the hassle of a boat sale at the moment

,get yourself well and then set about selling it, there will always be opportunists who try to steel it from you.

Hope all goes well healthwise, rd. On the broker front, I'd endorse Hugh at Berthon. He sold my last boat for me. Hassle-free. It didn't make what we'd both hoped although it was a figure I was comfortable with and I also thought he'd done a good job, but he very generously volunteered to cut his fee in half. (I probably shouldn't have mentioned that.)

I wonder if it actually sold for a figure he expected all along, but didnt disclose at the start, for fear of not getting the business? Call me cynical, but......

I'm very sorry to hear about your health problems.

With regards to recommending a broker, it seems to me that location is an important consideration. Unless it's a boat with a very specialist following and broker (like Gavin Poole for Faireys or Seaward for Seawards) then a broker close to the boat is always preferable as they're better placed to handle viewings at short notice. No point employing a highly recommended broker if he's 150 miles from the boat.
