Off to Nice

Its a building site right now, plus they've just done a controlled explosion in the checking area and my flight is now somewhere between an hour and two hours delayed, depending on the minute you look.

Why don't BA fly to T2? That looks very nice....

Bad luck Jez, sounds like you're having an annoying end to a frustrating day. Still - you've obv done the right thing today, and you *will* eventually get there. Are you heading back down again on Thursday?

T2 in /out is rapid as JFM infers .
Easy jet have had built a new box extension to the Rondal at T2,
Lounges both T2/T1 and most Uk airports to be frank tend to be filled with the wrong type of people if I can say that in an very un Corbyn est way :o
Once they were exclusive -now frequented by shell suited ,tattooed ,flip flop wearing Brits -maxing out on the free booze .
Any how sorry to here a few more hurdles still up .
I,am sure it will all work out well in the end

Tee-hee, I apologise on behalf of fellow hoody wearers everywhere :D

I'm with the other regular users of T1 - I like how small and quick it is, both on arrival and departure. Lounge is good enough for me; it's not the Concorde room, granted, but you're never there for very long.

Once you start with Reus and Barcelona you'll wish they copied Nice's format :D

Nothing wrong with Reus - in fact it is a really easy airport to use.
Non of this silly buses to get you onto plane on the apron - just a few bollards and you walk to the aircraft yourself - in the beautiful sunshine.

BTW
We've got a brand spanking new airport serving SC now.
Castellion
They built it about 5 years ago but they couldn't get a licence for any aircraft.
Still, they plodded on - built a fantastic statue at the entrance - cost loads - don't know where the money came from.

Ryanair started flying into Castellion this month from Bristol (and Stanstead I think)
If it works, it is about 40 mins from SCM

SWMBO will probably use Castellion when she comes out later in Oct.

IMHO the best thing about Nice Airport is the fact that you can sit there -in either terminal in a lounge or on the floor ,and look out at the amazing view of the blue shimmering Med .
Watching yachts / mobos criss cross the vista with Antbes on your RHS and Nice /Villfranche on the LHS .
Thinking that was us yesterday
It's just a great phase out of a boat hol -watch other folk doing it -while u wait to jet off

Would have been perfect for us, cheap as well, but there seems to be no infrastructure. Only one hire company charging silly prices, no bus, no train. Crazy place to build an airport really. Hopefully they'll get it together.

Or watch a constant stream of private jets taking off while Easyjet delays yet another flight...

On the subject of airports, I always reckon that the walk through Palma airport takes as long as the taxi drive to the city. By and large, the smaller the airport the better (unless you crash).
There was always a huge amount of hiking at Palma airport and you had to be in the rudest of health to make to and from your plane. I regularly saw knackered British OAPs abandoned in the endless corridors. I always reckoned the Spanish deliberately parked all British planes as far away as possible to punish us for being non Schengen and just for being British of course.

Cagliari is a nice little airport though; barely any walking at all and very few shops to distract the SWMBO

Also exhausted parents with toddlers, as we found out. The 'old' Palma airport pre about 1997 or thereabouts was a lot better (ie, smaller).

Nice Airport has the nasty ambush of Hermes just before you hit the passport check through to the non-schengen. Apart from that the shopping is next to nothing and certainly not the shopping mall feel of UK airports.

I curse Hermes and the impact it has on my wife.

Only tip I can offer on Nice airport is to stay on the free bus for one stop after T1 if coming from T2 to the train station. Saves a couple of mins of walking.
Probably worth jumping on the bus for one stop if arriving at T1 if it's there waiting as you exit.
Why isn't the train station at the flippin airport when the track runs right by it?
