I picked this up in a charity shop in Oban and enjoyed it immensely, particularly because it covered many of the places I called at while or just before reading it.
In 1937 Neil Gunn gave up his job as an excise officer to earn his living from writing, sold his house and bought a motorboat on which, with his wife and, later on, his brother, he made a trip from Skye to Inverness via Iona and Kerrera. The boat leaked, the ancient Kelvin was a constant source of worry and neither Gunn nor his wife had any previous experience. As well as details of the trip there is a lot of stuff - dated, but still interesting - about the social and economic conditions and history of the Highlands.
Available from Amazon for a tenner or so, Kindle or paperback.
