I have unfortunately had to recently deal with ofcom for a Ship radio licence. My first and main problem was my data was many years ago incorrectly migrated onto the current IT system. It was quite a struggle to get it sorted. Then lately I have had create new records for a new to me yacht. The application process is currently either stuck waiting for me to do something (I cannot see what) or it is in long waiting (21 days) list to be actioned. Speaking to person at the office helps considerably. They can advise what is relevant and what to ignore on the various screens.

We (yachtsnet brokerage) recently tried to get Ofcom to delete an old MMSI - the quite old yacht we were selling had two MMSIs with different numbers - one from about 4 owners back and one much more recent correctly entered in the current VHF. Even giving them evidence that the "old" MMSI owner had long since sold the boat and it had then been issued with a new MMSI by the next owner, they claimed that they could not do this unless the owner of the first MMSI contacted them. Given the the length of time he'd owned it and the date he sold it he was probably long dead.

Gave up in the end and told the new owner to use the more recent MMSI and how to get his name registered.

The Ofcom Licensing Portal is useless. I've tried to register the VHF on a newly acquired boat and very time you move to the next page it says previous page incomplete or invalid but if you use back buttons its erased everything. Why is so much of the public sector so incompetent at designing online forms except maybe DVLA.

The back button erasing everything is quite normal. What annoys me is when it says missing information but doesn't highlight the relevant box / area !
