Hello
Does any body know what is in a holding tank vent filter ?
I would like to know because if it is plain charcoal, at round about £25 for a replacement cartrige, it's very expensive charcoal !!!
I could see a cheap DIY alternative to the whole thing, an old plastic tub, a couple of plumbing fittings......
Cheers.

They seem to be activated charcoal in some sort of foam, and they do seem to vary in price quite a lot. The recommended method from Tek tanks seemed to be not to fit any filter at all, as it restricts the flow of oxygen which is what allows the odours to occur in the first place. I'm not sure I fully believe it myself.

I took your view, but in desperation with a dumpthrough, I fitted an aditional 22mm breater to the holding tank, plus a 12v computer fan to enforce air movement - in through the silly 3/8 breather or the open flap and out through the new vent.

Smells now virtually eliminated, but the formadldihide apperas to have done with the fan. No smell despite having a tank half full over winter, and now its flushed and in use without formadehide, has not smelled for over a month.

I suspect the summer will cause slight problem unless I get the fan fixed.

Yes the oxygen is vital, preferbably with no formaldehide.
