Bloke I knew with a nice Colin Archer woody (real one, not a copy) had a cat on board. Don't remember the breed, but it would attack anybody who came on board if the skipper was not there. Savage little bu++er.
And, just remembered, another cat. Lived on a boat on a swinging mooring. If it fancied going ashore it jumped over and swam. Getting back was more tricky with the freeboard, so it would climb in the dinghy and moan until the owner noticed and pulled in the painter.

The Kon-Tiki crew were presented with a pig upon departure. There was a Dr o/b & full Med kit. it was mooted they might amputate a leg at a time as they had no refrigeration. In the end it was dispatched then eaten
