Some have asked for a report so here it is.
Firstly a short comment to YBW.
Only 20 links to photos allowed in posts - a bit limiting IMO.
So I've divided it into several sections - a new thread each time.
I’ve also put the photos at 1024 pix wide
– mainly because there are some panorama photos amongst them which look better if they are wider so the other pics might as well be that size as well.
It might be a bit long winded but I think you will find the whole thing interesting - especially the later threads.
So, has our move to the Med been worth it? I've just been reading HLB's thread on "Why Don’t Most Boats Go Anywhere".
Maybe if Jennywren is a bit of an exception, her new found friend, Warlock, must be as well.
SWMBO and I decided on a late break and after securing a couple of very cheap Ryanair flights, we found ourselves back on the boat in Sant Carles
with just over a week of October left.
As we stepped off the plane, the heavens opened and we had torrential rain - not a good omen - we thought.
It soon cleared up and later that night our next door berth holders arrived with the same ambition. A late season cruise - possibly???
Our next door berth holders arrived with their boat at Sant Carles during the summer and are not unknown to members of this forum.
They had set off from Sparkes Marina early in the summer soon after they had taken delivery of their new Sunseeker Predator 52 named Warlock.
No sooner than Warlock’s crew had arrived, plans were being made for a late season excursion.
The following day, both boats were lifted, scrubbed and fuelled for a long cruise.
During the day, the weather improved, the sea went smooth and Sant Carles gave us one of its fabulous sunsets.
The following morning we were up early and off.
The plan was to run up to Barcelona to pick up more crew for Warlock (again faces not unknown to these forums).
And whilst in Barcelona we would “take in” some of the sights.
After that who knows – maybe a round Mallorca cruise??????
This is a chartlet of the plan.
I kicked myself when I got home – I forgot to copy our actual track from the boat’s computer so I’ve fudged the route on this chartlet to show our plan.
At this stage we didn’t know if the full plan was possible.
Warlock had done the run to Barcelona earlier in the summer had stopped in a little bay on the way for a swim.
With the sea getting flatter every minute and the wind dropping to almost zero, we decided to do the same.
And then pressed on to Barcelona
We had booked both boats into Barcelona’s Port Vell Marina which is right in the middle of the city so the next two days were spent doing the “culture thing”.
Its great having your boat in the centre of a large city and in Barcelona’s case, the cost was very reasonable and there are loads of things to do.
The marina is right at the end of the Ramblas and very close to the metro so everything is in easy reach.
We could have chosen Puerto Olimpico but we thought it would be more fun to be in the centre.
But we did manage to find time to get a few views of some interesting other sights.
Apparently, Barcelona is an important refitting centre for luxury yachts. A cable car transports people over the port providing these views.
Most of us try to hide things in our satellite domes - this guy hides the dome itself!!!
Finally, after 3 nights in Barcelona, with the forecast of flat seas and no wind, we managed to extract ourselves for a more ambitious run
– to Mallorca – sort of on the way home.
Warlock’s owners are old hands in the islands and I was keen to use their experience.
They were promising to take us to their favourite little calas.
More to follow if you are interested – I have some great photos of some fab places.
Oh yes - A couple of video clips on the next post.
