Years ago a ship I was in loaded ..Boxes..In Vancouver, onto her after deck and a couple on the foredeck. Easy to lash down, but we moaned because they just made life difficult doing normal ships work.. seaman's work .. Someone said that one day all cargo would be carried that way and a seaman's skills would not be needed. Hatches would not be as we knew them, cargo would not be touched, no rigging would be required. Oh! How we laughed..
Only photo I could find on the Net. Canadian Star, Blue Star Line leaving Vancouver with 'Containers' on her deck. Not a photo from my collection but my old ship..
That is a terrible shame - I hope that they can be rescued and carry on.
This is in reference to the two TOWT ships shown in the opening part of Wansworth's video. Our fleet - TOWT - Transport à la voile
On a more positive note, the Grain de Sail vessels appear to be doing well - they are now planning / building a third and much larger vessel.
Here is a link to their first vessel which can carry 50 tonnes of cargo - Our cargo sailboat Grain de Sail I - GDS
