My BIL thought I was being tight to fill the kettle with the same number of mugfulls of water as I was brewing for. I pointed out my reasons.

(a) minimise the time taken to boil the kettle.
(b) minimise the use of gas.
(c) minimise the need to fill up the water tank.

He agreed my reasoning was sound.
