I have noticed a trend over the years for certain northern europeans to sail around the med in the nude . Is this a cultural thing or does it apply only to liveaboards ?
I can see a good reason for liveaboards to adopt this technique as it cuts down on the need to be continually washing clothes, reduces consumption of fresh water and also protects the environment . Also the loss of privacy on a relatively small area means that one can be less embarrassed about such matters when living together in remote places for some time .
The crunch comes when one has to return to civilisation to restock supplies and find that clothes carefully stored away are mouldy and inhabited by cockroaches and the like and in some instances have become part of a rats nest
In the past I suppose this was the reason for our ancestors to resort to blue paint which leads me on to remark that I have recently seen some people around with spots of paint on them which I originally attributed to anti foul paint splashes
Would any live aboard care to comment ?
