Reasonably busy week:
Permanent
1. New depths west of the 'Sandiette SW' West Cardinal Buoy. All over 20 metres so not that interesting to us.
2. The contractors dredging in the deredging area off Great Yarmouth have discovered an obstruction within the area. At 22m again it won't bother many of us!
3. and 4. A pair of yellow buoys each close to the entrances to Blankenberge and Nieuwpoort. Worth noting for those of you going over for your fine this year.
Temporary
1. and 2. A slurry (well two and there was one last week as well) of notices regarding the cable pull off in the East Swale. The 12 and 5 ton anchors and their associated buoys have returned. Notice from Medway Ports. Notice also from Trinity House saying that Ham Gat and Pollard Spit have been temporarily removed and Whitstable Street has been moved east a little.
3. Long and for those of you with your noses glued to the AIS receiver, useful notice from Trinity House of AIS installations at Southwold, Orfordness, Cromer and North Foreland Lighthouses. Details of MMSI number and message formats.
4. Usual update on the London Array Wind Farm. One turbine is up and 4 more planned for this week, all close to Foulger's Gat where there is also diving operations planned to buried a cable from the sub station across the Gat to one of the foudnations. I guess a yacht would not be welcome in the Gat this week especially.
And finally an unofficial NtM from that well know marine safety publication the West Mersea Community Newspaper, to say that the removal of the Baffle Wall is to be extended two months from 3rd February to 1st April (suspicious). No reason is given but the paper speculates that 'they have encountered technical difficulties in removing the 28 metre steel piles that extend 14 metres below the sea bed. Elsewhere in this organ, it is announced that the current policy of the Highways Department with respect to Dorks who flood their cars on the Strood is to do nothing! Good oh. Oh and a red squirrel has been introduced to Mersea Island to form a breeding colony. Apparently it hasn't been seen for a couple of weeks
