The works are anticipated to take four weeks to complete. Works will take place from 0800 to 1700 daily and will include lifting operations, the use of elevated work platforms, operatives working on the water line and diving operations at each of the locations highlighted in the chartlet (See at Notices to Mariners). Requests for vessels to proceed with caution or pass at slow speed will be made by London VTS on VHF Ch. 14, in accordance with the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, section 4. International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY)’, ‘Alpha (A)’ and a red flag in accordance with Byelaw 33 will be displayed.

2. RIVER THAMES - UPPER POOL - WAPPING POLICE ENGINEERS PIER - that due to a mechanical issue at Wapping police pier, the boat lift is temporarily locked in the down position. Vessels are requested to proceed with caution and reduce their wash when passing the boat lift. Small craft and recreational users should have due regard for the underwater obstructions which may exist in the direct vicinity of the boat pier and keep well clear.
Further information may be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14. The boat lift is expected to be repaired by 1st February 2023

3. Dredging Operations: Rotterdam - no not really. It's the dredger Rotterdam working at 'arwich! :giggle: :giggle: - From around the 27th January 2022, the trailing hopper suction dredger Rotterdam will be working in various sections of the deep water channel including areas F, G and H as shown below and will be disposing of material at the Inner Gabbard East disposal area. For detailed information regarding the location of the dredging plant, please contact Harwich VTS (VHF 71) or listen to the daily Channel Deepening VHF broadcasts (VHF 11). The dredging contractor is the Van Oord / Boskalis Westminster Joint Venture appointed by Harwich Haven Authority to carry out the Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project. All vessels are subject to Harwich VTS Traffic Organisation. Given the increased frequency of vessel movements and dredging operations mariners are reminded of the importance of regulated vessel reporting requirements, the necessity to maintain a listening watch on channel VHF 71 and maintaining a good all-round lookout. Cahrtlet on the above quoted web page in the Local list.

4. Sheerness Harbour - Berth Dredging Operations - dredging operations are due to take place in Sheerness Harbour, dredging operations between Sheerness No.1 and Sheerness No.7 berth will commence on or around 25/01/2023 with completion expected by 27.01.23. Dredging will be focussed along the quay face/berthing area of the docks and will be carried out by the water injection dredger ‘Aquadelta’ who will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 74 at all times. ‘Aquadelta’ will display the required signals for respective operations by day and night, all vessels are requested to pass with caution, minimise their wash and monitor VHF Ch.74 at all times. Admiralty Chart No. 3683 refers. Further information may be obtained from Medway VTS on VHF Channel 74, call sign “Medway VTS” or telephone 0151 949 6148 or 0151 949 6650. 5. PORT OF GREAT YARMOUTH - Third River Crossing Construction Update (7) - in addition to cofferdam works the TOPJACK will located between Berth 13B/14A and Berth 31 and commence repair works to the Quayside either side of the Western bascule pit. (see web page for location diagrams). Quayside repairs will continue, supported by mulitcat vessel Sophia D (Venture Dalby) (pictures of vessels). Regular movements of these vessels will be undertake in the immediate vicinity and they may be moored/inposition on either side of the river. All vessels and any over-side work locations will be efficiently illuminated during hours of darkness. Expected dates: 24th January 2023 until end of March 2023.

6. Burnham-on-Crouch – River Frontage – Temporary Moorings for Dry-Dock - the 4 temporary moorings placed astern of the houseboats at Burnham river-frontage adjacent to Priors Boatyard centred on an approximate position of:
51°37.480N, 000°48.950E have now been removed.

7. Blakeney Harbour entrance - Hjordis East marker - The Hijordis East marker has been removed from its position for work to be carried out. A temporary yellow cone shaped buoy marked DZ4 has been put in it’s place. We will advise when the marker is reinstated.

8. Mersea Harbour - Works on the Hammerhead and Pontoon - Letter from the Colchester City Council - "The floating pontoon on Coast Road, West Mersea, at low tide, has quite a serve(re) tilt to it. The seabed beneath the existing floating pontoon is being eroded on the front edge. As a result, at low tide the pontoon rests unevenly on the seabed and there are concerns that it will cause damage to the pontoon. We are shortly going to be undertaking works to the site. Piles will be inserted into the seabed and concrete panels inserted in between post. The wall is to be installed below the front face of the pontoon and the low areas are to be infilled with crushed rock. The aim of the wall is to prevent future erosion and to prolong the life of the pontoon. To undertake this work, we will need to remove the hammerhead section out of its current position and moor it to the right-hand side of the pontoon looking out onto the water.
We would look to keep the main stem part of the pontoon open through the duration of this work. The pontoon may need to be closed while the piling operation works are being undertaken.
I would ask that the adjacent moorings which are now empty of boats could be kept clear for the duration of work to aid the movement of the hammerhead section of the pontoon and for the works barge that is undertaking the work. This section is approximately 7m wide by 36m long. We are looking to start the work week commencing the 13 February 2023. The reason is that the piling can only be undertaken at low water, depending on the weather conditions, this may affect when works can be undertaken. The works can only be undertaking at low tides which are: -
  • 19 to 26 February
  • 7 to 11 March
  • 20 to 26 March
  • 18 to 24 April
We are trying to complete the work by the end of March, but weather may affect the work. To undertake this work, we have had to apply for various licences from the Marine Management Organisation, Natural England and Planning Permission from Colchester City Council, and permission to undertake the work over the winter period. There are several stipulations, in some periods of bad weather, we may have to stop work completely.
Please could I ask that all boats which are currently moored on the hammerhead of the pontoon and on the right-hand side of the pontoon to be removed by the evening of Sunday 12 February. Otherwise, the Council may have to make arrangements for the boats that are left to be moved.

That's it.
