1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. -
Three dramatic reductions of depth e.g. from 10.8m to 0.7m, on the east side of the Middle Scroby Sands. The east side of the Scoby Sands i.e abutting Barley Picle is not marked by buoyage.

1. Reduced Depth – River Stour – Update 3 -
Mariners are advised that a further survey now indicates the minimum depth is 0.4m (below Chart Datum) in the vicinity of No. 15 buoy in the River Stour. See chart extracts at: Notices to Mariners for details. Maintenance dredging works are currently underway (see notice 57-2023 and 59-2023) to restore the channel depth and a further notice will be issued once this work has been completed.
2. Approaches to Sheerness - SS Richard Montgomery Wreck – Hydrographic Survey Work - survey work is due to take place around the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery, the SS Richard Montgomery is a designated dangerous wreck under section 2 of the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973 and there is a no-entry exclusion zone around the wreck, the co-ordinates of which are published in Statutory Instrument 1973 No 1690. Section 3 of the Act makes entry into the prohibited area an offence without the written permission of the Secretary of State. Survey works will take place between 16th October and 18th October 2023, permission has been granted for Clinton Marine Survey AB to enter the prohibited area for the purposes of carrying out a multibeam sonar survey of the wreck and the immediate area of seabed surrounding the wreck. The survey vessel “LODE” will be carrying out the work and may be restricted in it’s ability to manoeuvre whilst operating. “LODE” will maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch.74 at all times, all vessels are requested to pass with caution and reduce speed and wash appropriately. 3. Approaches to Sheerness - SS Richard Montgomery Wreck – Hydrographic Survey Work - survey work is due to take place around the wreck of the SS Richard Montgomery, the SS Richard Montgomery is a designated dangerous wreck under section 2 of the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973 and there is a no-entry exclusion zone around the wreck, the co-ordinates of which are published in Statutory Instrument 1973 No 1690. Survey works will take place between 20th October 2023 and 22nd November 2023, permission has been granted for Briggs Marine to enter the prohibited area for the purposes of carrying out a multibeam survey, gradiometer survey and chirp survey of the wreck and surrounding area. The survey vessel “Thames Guardian” will be carrying out the work and may be restricted in it’s ability to manoeuvre whilst operating. “Thames Guardian” will maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch.74 at all times, all vessels are requested to pass with caution and reduce speed and wash appropriately. 4. River Medway Approaches - Grain Spit – Nearshore Works - Update - the first phase of the “nearshore” works has been completed as per the schedule (see the previous notice). The first HDPE duct installation has taken place as part of the HDD nearshore works. The duct end is currently exposed at location 51° 27.945N – 000° 42.945E, which is located in the 'Excavation Area' illustrated in the accompanying Figure below. The duct end is approx. 6 meters long from where it exits the ground and lies on the seabed at low water. The pipe is buoyant and floats during high tide. A “Grippiale Grippy Light Buoy” will be attached to the pipe to alert mariners of the potential obstruction. Information from the manufacturer states that the light characteristics of the buoy relate to the battery power left in the unit and should exhibit as:
100% Battery - 75% 4 WHI TE FLASHES , 75% - 50% 3 WHI TE FLASHES’ 50% - 25% 2 WHI TE FLASHES, 25% - 5% 1 WHI TE FLASH, < 5% RED 5
The pipe end will be buried in approximately 1 month when all of the finalisation works have taken place, if no further obstruction remains, the marker buoy will be removed.
5. Swallowtail Channel - NAVIGATION - Swallowtail Lighted Buoys Nos 2 & 3 - The error in relaying the refurbished Nos 2 & 3 Swallowtail light buoys has been rectified and the buoys are now in their charted positions.

Swallowtail No 3 lighted buoy Fl (2) Y. 10s: 51°40.519N, 001°03.487E. Notice to Mariners 50 of 2023 is hereby cancelled.
6. PORT OF GREAT YARMOUTH - Herring Bridge 2nd Phase installation of tide boards - Mariners are hereby advised that as part of the Great Yarmouth Third River Crossing, works will be completed on Phase 2 of the tide board installation. Work will commence at 12:01 pm local time for approximately 1 week, enabling final installation of Herring Bridge tide boards. The works area is as shown in red below. Any further information can be obtained by call Third River Crossing Safety Boat on Ch12. (Notice dated on 10.10.23)
7. Lowestoft Harbour and Approaches – Dredging Activities - dredging activities scheduled for Lowestoft Harbour and Approaches as follows: -
• UKD Orca – from approx. 14th October. Duration of works: approx. 6 days. Working hours: 24hr.
• UKD Seahorse – from approx. 21st October. Duration of works approx. 6 days. Working hours: 0700hrs-1900hrs daily.
The dredgers will work both Inner and Outer Harbour Areas, also in Lowestoft Approach Channel. They will display lights and shapes for dredging activities as prescribed in the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
The vessels will maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch 14. Vessel movements will be co-ordinated via Lowestoft Port Control. Please contact Lowestoft Port Control – VHF Ch14, Tel. 01502 572286 (Option 3), if further information is required.
8. East Coast of England - The Wash - Approaches to Kings Lynn - Beacon B re-establishment - Beacon B (52° 49’.090N 000°21’.136E) has been re-established. Bravo Lt.By has now been removed. Please contact the Harbour Office for further information.
