Local

1. Lowestoft Inner Harbour – Gull Wing - Marine Construction Activities North and South Sides of Lake Lothing
- continued construction activity in Lake Lothing in the vicinity of the Gull Wing Bridge crossing. From 25th August, barges will be working North and South sides installing dolphin fender piles and pier cofferdam piles. Piling activities will be focussed in the areas shaded yellow on the chart extract. Port and stbd hand lighted buoys have been placed in positions also indicated on the chart extract which can be seen on the Local List at: Notices to Mariners.
With the buoys in these positions a channel width of 32m is maintained. There may be occasions during barge repositioning, when the barges or other marine plant encroach into this channel width. These encroachments are only anticipated to be by up to approx. 5m, and scheduled so that they do not coincide with any large commercial vessel movements. The piles once fully installed are only at approximately 0.2m height above the MHWS mark. There will be times when the barges are either working only North or South sides of the Lake. It is therefore essential that Mariners only pass between the red and green buoys to keep clear of the piles and any other marine obstructions in the shaded yellow areas. As an additional precaution (to try to highlight the presence of the piles) there will be a small lit special mark buoy placed in the centre pile and the pile closest to the edge of the navigational channel on that side, as per photograph below. Buoy flash sequence is QFl.Y
2. Burnham Sailing Regatta 2021 – Saturday 28th August – Saturday 4th September 2021 - A higher density of sailing and rowing craft are to be expected on the river during the period. Organisers of the Rowing Craft have been requested to keep the courses outside of the main Fairway and NOT use Fairway Buoys as Racing marks. Mariners are requested to be additionally vigilant and keep a good look out at all times.
River Crouch, Firework Display – Saturday 04th September 2021 - The culmination of the 2021 Burnham Sailing Regatta will be marked by a firework display on the evening of Saturday 04th September 2021 at approximately 21:00 hours with an expected duration of around fifteen minutes. The pyrotechnics will be discharged from a floating pontoon moored fore and aft centered on an approximate position of: 51 37.42’N 000 48.92’E (opposite the Burnham Quayside, CHA Harbour Office). It may be necessary to alter this location on the day depending on weather conditions. There will be an exclusion zone in place centered on the position/pontoon of 200 metres. This will come into force at 20:50 ten minutes prior to commencement of display until its conclusion. Mariners are to remain outside the exclusion zone. A safety boat will be in attendance throughout the display and the CHA HM Launch “Watchful” will also be on location. Vessels will keep a listening watch on VHF Channels 16 & 11.
