1. RIVER THAMES - King Edward Memorial Park CSO Diversion -
from 19th August 2024 and for a period of approximately four months the Tideway Tunnel Combined Sewer Outfall (CSO) at the King Edward Memorial Park site will be diverted to the river. During this period the CSO may discharge rain-water and untreated sewage into the river whenever there is, or has recently been, rain in the local catchment area. The discharge amount and velocity will vary, but during a storm this could be up to 6 knots, lessening the further from the outfall you are (example modelled flow velocities are included and the full notice with images and chartlets can be downloaded at : Notices to Mariners in the Local List). Manoeuvrable motorised vessels travelling within the navigable channel will likely feel little effect. The approximate location of the CSO on the King Edward site is shown in red on the chartlet. A set of warning lights will be mounted vertically in front of a black backboard on the cofferdam above the CSO. The lights will flash a yellow alternating 1 second pattern, visible day and night from 045° to 315° at a range of up to 200m, whenever the CSO is discharging or likely to discharge. Tideway advise the lights will activate approximately 8 minutes before any discharge will occur.
A broadcast will be made by London VTS on VHF Ch 14 and a Navigation Warning will be issued to those registered to receive Notice to Mariners and displayed prominently on the PLA website when Tideway advise that the CSO is discharging or is likely to discharge shortly.
Routine VTS broadcasts will also include a warning if Tideway inform us there is a likelihood there will be a discharge within the next hour from the site. Human powered recreational craft, lower powered vessels and craft engaged in towing are advised to avoid the area over the slack water period (around two hours over low water and an hour over high water) if there has been heavy rain or if there is a Met Office Amber or Red weather warning for rain or storms in force for the London area. After this four-month period it is expected that the CSO will be fully connected to the main Tideway Tunnel which will reduce the number of these discharges directly into the river to approximately 3-4 a year. A new Notice will be issued at a later date to advise of permanent Tideway Tunnel operations. All mariners are advised to exercise caution when passing the site, remain outside of the works area (marked in purple on the chart) and to pay attention to warnings given..
2. RIVER THAMES - Civil & Marine Jetty Works -
on or about Monday 5th August, 2024 contractors instructed by the operator of Civil and Marine Jetty, Purfleet will carry out works on Jetty 1 loading hopper and conveyor system. Works are scheduled for no longer than 10 days, between the hours of 0700 and 1700. The chartlet shows the general location. These works will be carried out from “THAMES TRANSPORTER” and will involve personnel working from a mobile elevated working platform (MEWP), crane operations and men working at the water line. A safety boat is also expected to be in attendance for these works. During these works, any requirement to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedure set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’. International Code Flags ROMEO YANKEE.
3. RIVER THAMES - Scour Mattress Installation Operations at London Gateway Berth 4 - on or around the 5th of August 2024, scour mattress installation operations will take place at London Gateway Berth 4. The vessels involved in this operation are as follows:
GPS Battler; GPS Arcadia; Osprey Bouwer Barge; GPS 601 Barge and NP 639 Barge. Scour protection works will be in or around the dashed red boundary line depicting the footprint of the scour mattresses to be installed. During the operations, these vessels will maintain a 75-metre exclusion zone from vessels berthing or unberthing at London Gateway Berth No. 3. All involved vessels will be keeping a listening watch on VHF Channel 68 and will be in direct contact with the London Gateway Harbour Master and shift managers. These operations will take place for a duration of approximately 4 months. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant when navigating in the vicinity of London Gateway. For more information, please contact London VTS at 01474 562215.
4. Environment Agency Thames Barrier Closures - Commencing 1st November 2024 - The Thames Flood Barrier will be closed once a month for test purposes, in accordance with a programme issued for a period of six months, commencing 07 November 2024. Listed below are the times between which the Thames Barrier will be closed to navigation for test purposes. During these periods’ navigation in the Thames Barrier Control Zone, between Margaretness and Blackwall Point, will be restricted and any movements in this area will require permission from London VTS.
November Thursday 7th 09:30 to 12:00
December Thursday 19th 09:20 to 11:50
January Monday 20th 10:30 to 13:00
February Monday 17th 09:30 to 12:00
March Thursday 20th 09:40 to 12:10
April Thursday 17th 09:45 to 12:15
The closures will be confirmed and promulgated by London VTS from 24 hours in advance of the operation by VHF radio on routine river broadcasts. From the start of each closing procedure until completion of the opening procedure vessels will be prohibited from transiting the Thames Barrier. Most closures are for approximately 2½ hours over the respective low waters. No vessel is to pass Margaretness inward bound or Blackwall Point outward bound once a Thames Barrier closure has commenced unless authorised by London VTS.
5. Sizewell C Harbour - survey operations are planned to resume on Sunday 28th July 2024 until approximately late September 2024. The survey operations will be carried out from a 12m, white twin hulled survey vessel called ‘VALKYRIE’ during daylight hours only.
Nearshore Survey #1: These survey operations will commence on Sunday 28th July 2024 and will take approximately one week.
Offshore Survey #2: These survey operations will commence on 3rd August 2024 and are expected to complete before late September 2024.
Both surveys will involve the use of multibeam echo sounder, side scan sonar and also vessel mounted or towed magnetometers. Survey operations will include towing magnetometers from the stern of the vessel at a maximum tow length of around 75m throughout various depths of water. The vessel will be restricted in her ability to manoeuvre. Other vessels should maintain an appropriate and safe distance of 500m when passing the survey vessel whilst it is undertaking survey operations and should pass at the lowest speed to avoid vessel wash effects. The survey vessel will maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Channel 16. The planned survey area where operations will be undertaken and coordinates are provided in the usual webpage on the Local List.

Other Local Notices might be added tomorrow. I found the Peel Ports website down andthe interweb here has been grinding everso slow. One notice was predicted as 42 minutes to download! I shall try again in the morning.

Peel Ports appear to still be down 'Error 503'.

There is a current NtM from the London Array about diving operations that will continue into and through September. When working at specific turbines a 500m exclusion zone will be established and there will be a variety small vessels taking part. There is no pre-set location because it depends on the weather and work requirements. Call up any LAL vessel on 16 before entering.

You may find some images are not being displayed on my website but the links are there and you can call up the images - pesky software! :devilish:
