Local Authority Notices

1. River Medway – Chatham Dock - Temporary Suspension of Service (Updated on 3rd August) -
due to technical issues experienced during commissioning trials the planned re-opening of South Lock at Chatham Dock has been delayed further. It is now expected that completion and acceptance of shipping will be during calendar week 32 of 2022. Work to resolve issues with the North Lock is ongoing.
Notice is hereby given that: following a recent vessel allision that led to significant damage, Chatham docks will be closed to navigation and unable to accept any vessel movements for a period of approximately 8 -12 weeks commencing 24th March 2022 in order to complete required repairs.
North Lock
As a consequence of a vessel allision, the North Lock will be closed indefinitely to undergo necessary repairs. Further updates on timescales and completion dates will be issued in due course.
South Lock
The South Lock inner & outer motors are currently being replaced as part of an ongoing refurbishment programme. The work is expected to be completed in approximately 8 - 12 weeks.
Updates on the status of locks will be promulgated via an amendment to this notice.
2. Lowestoft – Outer Harbour - Sladdens Pier - GI Works - Mariners and port users are advised that Ground Investigation (GI) works are to be carried out around Sladdens Pier (shown in Figure 1) from Monday 8th August 2022.
Works will be carried out using the Jack up barge Haven Seariser 3 assisted by tugs Taska 1 and TM Star for movements. The barge is planned to carry out the works along the entire seaward face of the Pier. The barge will commence works at the north-east end of the pier and work south -west. Some of the positions will obstruct the main navigational channel, but the barge will be able to move to facilitate vessel movements if required. A minimum of 30 minutes notice will be required in such circumstance. When required to be in position at the extreme South West position, work during peak times of CTV movements to and from the Trawl Dock will be avoided where possible. Port control will be liaising with the barge to facilitate vessel movements. The GI works are planned to take 2-3 days subject to suitable weather. Works will only take place in daylight, normally 0800-1800. The jack up barge will be berthed at SLP south berth when not operational.
3. Ramsgate - Green Harbour Buoy and East bank Buoy - the Green Harbour Buoy, on the approaches to the Royal Harbour is unlit. In addition, the East Bank Buoy in the Royal Harbour is also unlit.
4. Ramsgate - No 4 Ramsgate Channel Buoy - the No 4 Ramsgate Channel Buoy is unlit.

That's it.

Two late night Notices from Harwich Haven last night (Grrr ).

Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project: Plough / Bed levelling Tug Operations:
On or around the 9 August 2022, the Anchor Handling Tug Lev Twister (IMO: 8302088) will begin plough / bed-levelling operations in the Deepwater channel.
The Lev Twister (details below) has been fitted with a stern A-Frame and a 20m wide heavy levelling beam which will be towed on the seabed immediately behind the tug, running East-West and North-South, to remove high spots. The dredging contractor is the Van Oord / Boskalis Westminster Joint Venture appointed by Harwich Haven Authority to carry out the Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project.
The Lev Twister will operate throughout the deep-water channel, but will initially work in dredge areas B, C and D. (See sketch HHA B/C/D) (see the usual web page calling up the Local List: Notices to Mariners
Due to the nature of the rigging and towing arrangements, vessels should not come alongside the Lev Twister during bed-levelling operations. For detailed information regarding the location of the dredging plant, please contact Harwich VTS (VHF 71) or listen to the daily Channel Deepening VHF broadcasts (VHF 11).

Plough / Bed levelling Tug Operations – Jean T
Mariners are advised that on or about the 10th August 2022, the workboat Jean T will commence maintenance plough dredging for a period of approximately 10 days in the harbour and at the following locations:
• Mistley berths and approaches
• Harwich International Port
• Trinity Pier berths
• Ha’penny Pier
• Harwich Navyard
Detailed dredger movements can be obtained from Harwich VTS on VHF Channel 71.

Obviously the second one will affect leisure users.

This was working in the Harbour the other day, The large suction dredger Rotterdam had snapped a suction arm/tube off!!
I believe it was mentioned in Notice to Mariners.......Heavy lift.PNG

Yes, they did mention it in their Notices. By chance the Notices all came after the Monday and finished before the next Monday. Given all the work was in the DW channel I didn't do a mid week thread as few leisure craft would be affected. I am afraid I only do the Notices on a Monday afernoon/evening; to post every day would be a bit of a chore - unless it directly impacts leisure craft.

The pipe had been recovered - I think on Sunday - and all was finished. Quite an expensive hire for that I reckon!
