Even as ex boaters we always enjoy visiting SIBS, so had a very pleasant weekend planned at the show with the intention of picking up a nice pair of boat shoes and some artwork for our apartment.

Unfortunately the shoes I wanted had been sold when I went back to buy them and the artwork didn't tick the right boxes so rather than come home empty handed...............................we bought a Monterey 258SS bowrider to be delivered to Mallorca next Easter!

I genuinely thought our boating days were over when we sold the S34 in 2009, but now I can't wait to be back on the water...............

So, let me remember.................Port is left and Starboard is right...............they're not ropes they are lines even though they are ropes..................don't empty the holding tank in the marina.....................Fenders should be put out before trying to dock................................

Is there anything else I need to remember?

Yup one other thing.......... Don't go buying stuff on impulse :)

Which marina will you keep it in?

That's the $64K question! Our apartment is in Cala D'Or so ideally keep it there or preferably Portopetro but I'm not sure what's available. Beggars can't be choosers in the short term but long term I want to try and get into Portopetro, may even consider buying as the leases run to 2037 - which is probably longer than I do!

Experience tells me that there is little point in enquiring by phone or email so I will start asking around when we are next out at the end of October. It will fit properly into an 8x3m mooring which may give me more chance as there are more of them.

If anyone has any contacts who may be helpful I would be grateful to hear from you.

Cheers

Martyn

yes,

back is called bow (think B for B)
and the pointy bit is often called aft

now tell us what you drunk before ending up in the wrong stand...

Thank goodness there are experienced boaters like you who I can turn to for wise advice :-)

Rather than put it in the water where it will foul up is it not worth keeping a boat that size on the hard on a trailer and then launching when you want to use it. I assume they have a slipway

Should be cheaper also

We discussed specs and prices with several dealers and all of them were offering good discounts on new orders.

Didn't discuss stock boats with anyone so can't say what they are prepared to do on them.

Yes this is one option I will explore, we will only be using the boat April to October. The problem is that in Mallorca hard standing can be as expensive as Mooring out of season short term Mooring charges can be eye wateringly expensive in season.

I went into a shop in Cyprus to buy a postcard (this was a few years ago) and came out with a made to measure suit! Worlds best salesman!!!

A mate's dad went into a shop to buy a fanbelt, and came out with a ride-on lawnmower.

The daft thing was that he had a perfectly serviceable ride-on lawnmower already :D
