You can get soft lenses for astigmatism. They call them toric lenses, and of course cost more.
I used to wear my lenses sailing but found the spray irritated my eyes, which made me rub them and made the matter worse so I would have to pull them out. I needed either glasses or lenses all the time.
Recently I had a cataract operation and they sucked out the clouded lenses and inserted new ones. The difdference is amazing. Only need the specs for close or distance work - I can usually get away without them. Using binoculars has become a pleasure!
I have bought a number of pairs of cheap reading glasses in addition to proper prescription glasses, and have left a couple of pairs in the boat, one in the car, couple in jackets etc.
Life is much easier now!
