Moved the boat yesterday from Universal on the Hamble to its new home Royal Clarence Gosport. Universal had put my fees up close to 50% so I was off, RCM works out less the half of the renewal at Uni.
I've recently bought a drone, and although I was planning to learn how to fly it before taking it above water, as it was a sunny day yesterday I thought what the hell, if it falls out the sky its gonna be knackered regardless of what I'm flying above.
Admittedly the footage is absolute rubbish, but it does show off the Solent on a flat calm day, it looked that good id though I'd post it anyway. I was trying to get the drone to follow me but it was complaining the GPS signal was too low, although it was connected to 6 or was it 9 Sats at the time. So I ended up trying to track the boat manually, with very limited results

Not sure where the music has come from at the start of the clip.

I promise I'll learn how to fly the drone and will shortly post some far better video soon.

Now I have got to get myself one of those! I tried the kid's 50 buck special, cheap and nasty Amazon special, and surprised myself by quite enjoying it. Brought out the kid in me. And I never crashed it, bonus!

Looks nice.

Remember not to do some flying as you move around in the boat and then hit the “come back here” thing if your drone has it. There will probably be a splash some way away. :)

nice, what drone?
if you could edit and cut the "oh, what does that button do" and "hm does this turn right or left" moments, reducing it to 1/4 or less it would be brilliant! I particularly like the passing under the steady drone shots more than I like the drone follows boat ones tbh

cheers

It’s just a Phantom 3 Standard, I followed with interest the recent thread on here, but felt I needed something a bit cheaper to learn with than the Mavic’s etc that were discussed on the thread. I took a chance and bought off eBay advertised as an unwanted gift.
Must admit I’m well impressed. Now i’m Confident that it isn’t just going to fall out the sky, I’d like to learn the features and then learn to edit, then hopefully I might just have something viewable. Although Fawley power station as a back drop isn’t quite a match for your stunning cruise pictures

Swanwick is jam packed full due to the increase in Universal fees, and at "close on 50%" I am not surprised. Hope they don't give Premiere any ideas! How can they justify such a price hike - last time I checked a couple of years ago, they were pretty close to Swanwick berthing fees.

Edited to say Just checked again, and their prices still seem pretty well on par with Swanwick, so did they go up massively for 2018?

I can’t find a price list for 17/18 and I arrived there in July so have not paid a full year. I do have an email giving me a annual charge of 13.6k for a 19.3m boat and I’ve paid a percentage of that based on 9months. My renewal was just over 20k when paid by DD, they’ve dumped the bronze and silver discounts for long service and just offer a single 10% for paying all upfront. They have not offered any explanation for the uplift and as I’d already decided I was at very least moving up to swanwick I haven’t chased them. Uni is quite a nice marina, and they do spend money on it, but I’ve always felt the management seem to thing you should be thankful they let you berth in their marina.

Meant to say, superb detail on the video. We moved our boat from Chichester back to our "home" marina at Swanwick last week, F3, Chi bar flat calm, and smooth seas - cold but wall to wall sunshine. In contrast, we have just canned Easter on board - rain, rain and more rain. BUT, some forecasters claim we will have 60 days of sunshine and warmth from May 1st. Here's hoping!

Nice vid.

Like you I moved the boat to its new mooring on Monday, but from Mercury to Haslar. It was a gorgeous day, so much so that I just poodled along at 8 knots and enjoyed the scenery. Days like that, when hardly anyone else is out, are priceless.

I was out yesterday morning (Tuesday) in a fairly deserted Poole Harbour with volvopaul for a start of season shake down - wind was increasing as we headed back in about 10.30am but for the hour we were out it was very pleasant, next to no traffic about and even better, no speed limits in the harbour.

Makes me think that grabbing a quick run out here and there at the start of a day when all is quiet is well worth the effort - I just need a crew member each time as not quite quite confident enough to slot her back in her berth and tie up single handed (as Paul will attest to yesterday!).
