Michael Pocock trained with Laurent Giles before going independant. We built 2 Starlight 30s from plans at my parents house, making 3 one offs. They were all made using C-Flex over an open mould and had a hand sanded before being painted. It was only whilst building did we find out that a production version was being started in an old chicken shed in the Channel Islands. I expect this is a production version.

Compared to many boats that you have considered, she would certainly meet your requirements for internal volume and wide side decks. Do you need to follow doctor's advice? Go and view, if not get a friend go take a look with a video camera. This would certainly stop the boat being moved back to France.

Sorry to learn of the uncertain future due to illness. A few years ago by chance I met up with the current owner and family of my parents last boat, a motorboat. They explained she had a few problems due to being kept in the non tidal Thames for some years and hardly used as the wife of the owner had been seriously ill and needed a lot of care at home. Eventually she died and it was quite expensive to fix some bits like the trim tabs and sea cocks as they has siezed and required being slipped to get them fixed. So possibly you should follow doctors orders and not buy a boat which could become a liability in the near future.

Thanks for your kind words In theory should be ok come mid summer but would rather eliminate more responsibilities till the coast is clear

This is most unsatisfactory. Who are we going to rib about their (non!)choice of boats if you're out of the market? ;)

Seriously, sorry to hear those woes are continuing. Hope they resolve themselves as soon as possible.

Do you want us to write to the doctor promoting the therapeutic value of being able to get out on the water?:D

Realy sorry to hear about the medical hiccups, W.
Why not lower your sights a bit and look at smaller boats? Something in the 20ft area. Going for peanuts now. Still a lot of fun and much lower expenses.
The Kelt 6.20 I am fixing up has no commercial value, but will be fun to sail around the local estuarys. It actually rates B, so can do some offshore cruising. Up to 60 nm from a 'safe haven', nuff for me at my age...

Thanks for your thoughts .Our choices are really what is available everything up in the air at present but it might come to deciding it would be better a slightly bigger boat to be comfortable for a week on board .Looking at what’s available just under 8 metres there are several boats and over 8 goes into the next bracket. At this momment the best deal is a 24 footer with new engine, prices are dropping so maybe come the summer we will find our boat,

Well . Lovely 30ft that Pocock .
(Here’s another with a taller Rias breeze mast and a longer keel but it’s in engerland)
Starlight 30 for sale UK, Starlight boats for sale, Starlight used boat sales, Starlight Sailing Yachts For Sale 1979 Starlight 30 - Apollo Duck

Whether nimbly sailing , strolling around the deck , or having a siesta at anchor or@ marina drinking coffee playing invalid …. A nice choice at sub 10k euros and you probably won’t lose yer shirt when selling it on …

What I can say is that you probably can’t fix family up and downs

But.. family might be happy to see Dad happy on a boat ( with it without medical crew too, lucky you !

And when families and people are happy they tend to perform better. Win win ?

There were 2 keels for the Starlight 30. The one off Starlights we built, one was lead and the other was cast iron. The lead keel had a maximum thickness of 6" and required a stainless steel keel bolt frame to be cast within the lead, otherwise the keel could not support the weight of the boat if dried out against a wall. The cast iron keel weighed the same but had a maximum thickness of 10" and had stainless steel keel bolts tapped into the casting.

I agree with Blueboatman, you would be unlikely to loose any money on a Starlight 30 but even just sitting aboard this summer will improve your well being hugely - not to mention the smile you would have!

My advice to Wansworth is to get a yacht now…,your health may not be the best right now.,.but it might be as good as it gets…getting healthier as you age might be nice but I wouldn’t put the mortgage on it. Instead, accept that you will only get periods of relatively good health…so that boat needs to be on your pontoon ready to use…make those days special…and anything more is a bonus.
And mate, your daughter might always be unemployed until she becomes unemployable…you might have to just accept that..because there is already a good chance that she has made peace with it.
