That's a very smart looking S34, and the 43s are so much nicer than the 32s. It is nearly 20 years old, so I'd be budgeting money for those outdrives. Sheesh I'm sounding like oldgit.

The VHF is non-DSC unless I'm very much mistaken, but that's small beer and a couple of hours one afternoon to sort.
 
Call me fussy if you like but I am really looking for a circa 05 boat with the updated helm and heads.
Had the boat only been an hour or two drive away then I would take a look.

I'll wait for the flack to start coming my way.

If it helps Russ I am with you. We looked at older S34s and the difference the blue dash and updated heads panels makes is not insignificant. We looked at an older one with the KAD43s at York - don’t think it is the same one - and it just didn’t do it for me despite the KAD43s, which are a great motor. Part of it was the fact that it was a river boat and taking it to sea might have its issues, not least the potential for slugged up fuel tanks.

I hope you don't mind if I say - to put it bluntly - that by now I fully understand why you... "can’t believe how kin hard it is to buy a boat."
All well and good, mind. I don't think many folks saw as many boats and travelled as much as I did before buying a boat.
Otoh, I see no reason why you should be also "totally fed up with whole boat search".
Being choosy is demanding.
Either you enjoy the job (I did!), or you'd better accept a non-tinted screen - or whatever.

Speaking from personal experience, boats tend to give grief sooner or later. My previous two boats Bav 29 ( with 2 x D3s ) and NImbus Nova 27s ( with 1 x D4 260 ) both gave me a headache.

But they also gave me a lot of fun.

Do I regret owning them? CERTAINLY NOT.

Fed up with brokers mis-representing a boat, fed up with three surveys showing too many faults that were uneconomic to deal on, fed up with a broker raising the price, fed up with a broker not replying to questions or producing documents. The list goes on.

I don't think its unreasonable to want a well looked after clean boat at a sensible price. If that means being choosy, then so be it.
 
Sounds like you have been walking in minefields.
I think you will have to accept that its going to take a very long time to find a Sealine 34 in the condition etc satisfactory to you. These boats are now heading towards 15yr old and will require on going maintenance as the 3 surveyed have shown. Heaven forbid spare parts prices for a D series Volvo engine.
A new 34 now is I believe about £300K.
Perhaps a newer smaller French boat is the way forward i.e Jeanneau 30

Reasonable or unreasonable are pretty much subjective concepts, and as such hard to define - let alone agree upon.

What I'm sure of is that if you search a well looked after clean boat at a sensible price, and you restrict your choice not only to a single model, but also to a few versions/years of it, you are not making life easy for yourself, to say the very least.
Apologies if my "choosy" adjective sounded harsh, it wasn't meant to - in fact, I wouldn't mind using it for myself.

All other events you mentioned just come with the territory, when looking for a used boat.
If you really can't stand crook brokers/sellers, I can see why you are "totally fed up with whole boat search".
But the bad news is that there are still others out there, waiting for your call. It's not a matter of if, just of how many.
You can either come to terms with it, or stop searching.
Any other option is just wishful thinking, I'm afraid.

Window tinting is cheap ,a good boat at sensible price don’t go together.
 
The problem you have is that most of the well looked after boats are not for sale because they are being used, a boat only comes up for sale if it’s not being used so slightly neglected or as a trade up for something bigger but the S34 is already quite a big boat so not that many people upgrading from that size means short supply.
My F34 is 15 years old now so about the age your looking for and had lots of little faults picked up on the survey, some could of been show stoppers but the vender had the potential more major items fixed at a so called main dealer brokers workshop so the work was guaranteed.
A lot of the other small items I’m still getting around too 2 years later and I’m sure if a survey was done now there would be lots of things found, that’s a surveyors job and it’s a 15 year old boat, she still managed 190 miles last week at 20 knots with no problems though.

The other issue is price, just a read through these forums will show you what your up against, I trust nobody ever sells a boat on here by some of the attitudes.
Offer 20k less, take off this for this, try a very low offer etc etc etc.
No wonder most of the brokers are borderline crooks as half the people buying also are by some of the attitudes I’ve seen.
What ever happened to such a thing as a fair price and a fair offer?

Err..... that all ended when somebody, with not enough quite enough shekels, saw Noahs Ark advertised and Noah, fed up with his wife whinging on about a new kitchen and berthing fees , just wanted to get rid of a money pit...............................
That scenerio never ever existed.

The Principle of fair Price and fair offer certainly does exist. Another word for it is acting with integrity and Honour.
