The entire stock of Monkey's Fist Chandlery, formerly trading at Northney Marina, has been acquired by ABC MARINE, Mill Rythe, Hayling Island.

No vested interest, just a satisfied customer (AND double-posting too . . .).

Shame really

Monkey's Fist Chandlery, formerly trading at Northney Marina,

has toddled off, I think they were trying but never really had the bits most people need in stock, i popped in there for some seizing wire, "What's that"??

The was a bigger chandlers around the other side and that gave up too, I suppose folk at Northney just don't buy stuff?

Before the chandlers and the fire there was a nice "pub" in the building, shame that went.

I'm going to show my ignorance here......... Been at Northney for over 7 years or so and never knew we had a fire, or a pub in the building. Do we mean the tent ?

Just arrived at Northney a few weeks back. Shame Monkey's Fist couldn't make it work. Been to ABC marine - helpful guys and a useful stock of bits you need.

Yes I noticed the closing down on the windows yesterday evening. A shame, but I'm not surprised; there are only 230 odd boats at Northney, there's a Force 4 round by Chi Marina and the Marine Super Store is only about 10-15 minutes away. They were friendly and helpful and sold me various bits and pieces and I'm sorry they haven't been able to make it work. It was rarely even remotely busy and the range stocked wasn't a patch on the aforementioned.

I never knew abc marine even existed...!

Nicho, it's special non-corroding, bendy wire used to seize e.g. an anchor shackle, so that it undoesn't.

Longer afo than that

This was many a year ago probably 10?? It was a good chandlers. Before it, as I say a Pub and before that a bar it was the other side of the building facing the boat park. The fire saw an end to the bar and then it became a chandler.

In the big warehouse oposite they have oodles of goodies if you can set up a trade account they are the wholesalers for isotherm etc..

The Monkeys Fist chandlery took over from 2XS I think (??) who were a windsurfing/wetsuit specialist (their main shop is in West Wittering)... going back some it was also a windsurfing school - I learnt to windsurf there in about '75 or '76... :D

It's a shame, but as others have said, every time I went in there they never had what I wanted..... simply not enough stock.... only takes one visit and that's it - you just go elsewhere....

I didn't know about ABC though - I'll file that away for future reference..
