Where is it, where is it taken from and what's the white building bottom right(ish) in the pic?

Clearly taken on one of the busier bank holiday days ...

Interesting picture, trying to put a date on it is a puzzle. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice one LS, I'll put it to the brains in the office ... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Standing alone, as from a ramparts edge...

Will 2 out of 3 do? It's Windermere from Orrest Head. The view which inspired Wordsworth and Wainwright. Haven't a clue what the building is though.

Calgarth Park ? Still reckon its an old piccy, circa 1890's - 1900 (or of course a couple of days ago) ...

Yep. From Orrest Head.
The building is Calgarth Park (could have been missled as Calgarth Hall is in the pic, but hidden behind trees.
It was Wray Castle which handled the licences, directly above Calgarth Park, on the other side of the lake.

Southern poftahs Where Is It?

it's the boring view from boring orrest head, where southern softies walk up from windermere to say my what a view, that wordsworth came here too you know,so also lancashire curmugeons come here esp wainwright who went on to write a load of sodding books which are also for southern poofs as well, since they are in hardback and also categorise the fells in such a way that you need about four books for a decent trip, and would have to rip them to bits to save the weight of carrying stupid hardback books up mountains, i mean hardback for crissakes, which again just goes to show again they are for southern pooftahs. Oh the building must be some posh place since ithas a lodge, probablyalso owned by a southern pooftah too, might be now that lakeland visitor centre badger wassername these days which is where the sp's go after orrest head and before the effing garden centre in ambleside.

The mountains are much moe interesting, perhaps bowfell to lhs, loughrigg fell towards the right, langdale/stickback fells in middle distance and er perhaps Gable erm no more likely Grasmoor beyond.

ooh, good question - has it changed to be a picture of somewhere else now, inthe last few minutes? Has it changed so that it's in scotland or wales perhaps? Can i continue to get away with not reading the threads and just type anything i like?

Re: Southern poftahs Where Is It?

I sense a hint of disapproval of the great Wainwright in this posting.
Why, the personable old boy was a delight to meet and all the locals thought he was a lovable and lively character. The image of him as a dour, pipe-smoking, grumpy old, anti-social, fart is cunningly contrived to embelish the concept of fell-walking as a dangerous and lonely pre-occupation undertaken only by people who can't get real friends.
The fact that he was never blown off Blencathra or Striding Edge as so many modern fell-walkers appear to be is the only clue that it may have been a NASA conspiracy and he never went further than his Kendal living room, or the knocking shop at the corner of the street.
