North Wales Trailer Sailing?

Second vote for using Welsh Highland railway, if climbing Snowdon (Train stops at foot of Snowdon Ranger path) is a bit too much, stop at Beddgelert, wander around the town (good fish & chips) & then walk down the Aber Glaslyn - beautiful river walk, also call at Croesor (it means welcome) wher you can see the Ospreys nesting.

Portmadog is a lovely harbour & Shell Island (if you can dry out) is a lovely spot - but beware of tides in & out of the tiny entrance, you will HAVE to go with the flow!

Cool, thanks, good ideas.

Actually when I said climb something I did mean at Tremadog :):

(That's not me by the way!)

The train might be cool though... I have memories of going down to Barmouth for fish and chips on the train with my dad as a lad...

I think the plan for August is to come up to Pwllheli and do a bit of daysailing, plus try for an overnight in Porthmadog, as well as Barmouth (hopefully) and Aberdaron (possibly?)...

Hopefully see some of you guys up there!

That's Croeso.
Croesor. — A narrow comb in Blaenau Nanmor. Tradition says that Elen Lueddog was on her journey homewards when, on hearing the sad news of her son's death, she sorrowfully exclaimed, " Croesawr i mi" — i.e. "an hour of adversity to me" and the place was called Croesawr or Croesor from that sorrowful circumstance. English name — Griefham.
Source here. Elen Lueddog is an old spelling of Elen Luyddog - Helen of the Hosts, St Helen of Caernarfon.

They got about a bit in them days didn't they? As you may gather I am not a Welsh speaker, just recognise a few words & assumed it was a corruption.

Me too. I used to stay in a friend's cottage at Ynysfawr, very near Croesor, which is the only reason I dimly remembered another derivation. The day-of-sorrows stuff sounds rather romantic and implausible anyway ...

Over Easter, when I shot that video, we stayed on a pontoon belonging to Madoc Yacht Club at a cost of £75 for the week. We launched there too. I also rented a cottage in Tremadog and spent the royal wedding weekend climbing.

Sounds like you have a good plan there.

Thanks Ru88ell. How was it launching at Porthmadog? I suppose Zephr draws less than LR?

Zephyr only draws 18" with centreplate raised, 4' with it lowered. There were plenty of boats around with much more than that. The concrete ramp is pretty wide and steep at the top. We lower the trailer in on a long rope via a descendeur tied to the towbar.

Speak to the club; I found them to be very useful and welcoming.
