North Channel , whats the secret

Re: What the Almanac says....

Hmmm………my point is not a criticism of the quantity of advice. No, the advice is so thoroughly qualified which renders it confusing, which is why I think it dangerous.

The accident alant refers resulted in an investigation which recommended that the conditions at the time (I think tide turning to flood which, with strong winds, create steep breaking seas) should be noted as dangerous on all charts and pilotage of the area and to use the North Channel in these circumstances. I think my Imray IoW map does do so and the Shell pilot goes further as I recall – it says go round IoW.

Re: No- there\'s only one.

Have a look in Sailing Today(or whatever it's called). The one sailing rag that seems to know there are bods sailing/motoring north of Watford. They've an interesting article about the North Channel (doesnae mention onythin' aboot green and high hills, mind?)

Re: There\'s Only One North Channel, Laddie

There you are, you see; the Watford Gap is nowhere near Watford. Just another source of confusion to the poor northerners!
