Norfolk Broads Mast up info please?

Norwich, one way and a bit past oulton broad the other, also up to st.olaves, I think. George (H2OO) will be able to help here.

I was wondering the same thing this winter, went to Broads Authority stand at London Boat Show, entered their competition & won a weeks holiday on a motor cruiser. Much more fun than trying to get my mast up & down!

Anyway, as far as I recall from my trip last month, from Lowestoft you can get upto Beccles, there are some free moorings before the first bridge. You can also go through the railway swing bridge at Somerlyton (nice mooring past bridge here) upto St. Olaves & moor outside the pub before the bridge. You could also approach St. Olaves from Gt Yarmouth, but wouldn't really reccomend going past Burgh Castle - the Beccles stretch is far more scenic. Didn't make it up the Yare, so no help there!

Bridge heights are listed in Hamilton's Navigator ( http://www.hamiltonpublications.com/ ) - well worth getting a copy.

From Gt Yarmouth you can get up to Norwich with your air draught. The only fixed bridge is just south of Thorpe St Andrew on the outskirts of Norwich. There is a height gauge on the starboard side of the river.
Be aware that the river is still tidal that far up and you may want to go through at low water.
The tide tables for the Broads work off Low Water Gt Yarmouth. You would be fine going under the central part of the span.
You would have to contact the appropriate authority about the bridge between Great Yarmouth docks and Breydon Water as that one only swings by arrangement.
It is recommended to transit into Breydon Water at slack water if posible.
The other swing bridges swing on request- you have to lay off them and sound your horn if they are closed.
There are many good pubs and quiet anchorages along that stretch, along with some cracking sailing on Breydon Water and the Yare between Reedham and Thorpe.
