Nordhavn 62 a someone help put me off this pleeease!

If this boat had been on the market, at this price when we made our decision to change; we would have been on it like a shot.

Is it a fantastic boat for this price, as seen? Is it a sensible trans Atlantic capable boat?

Cost to change for me would be low - 4500 hours is ok for the JD I think.....running cost high of course but what a boat!!!

One of my best friends owned one for about 6 years and knows almost all the 62s. He is a fanatical Nordie owner, now has a 47 here in Spain but really misses his 62. We spent some time aboard in Panama, it really is a fantastic boat.
 
The Nordhavn 62 is a classic Nordy with a great reputation but if it was me I'd be looking at a newer N55 or N52 for that kind of money. 4500hrs isnt a lot for the engine but all the other equipment and of course, the interior, will be equally well used

Best hope is that we are too busy to go see it and it goes under offer quickly with the new price. I think it was on at 1.1m€ until recently...
Agree with Deleted User that the new 55 is the one to suit us best but the 62 would be great for ocean crossing.

I know Jimmy, Also Ann has just pointed out that the air draft is too great for the loop and that’s a deal breaker so phew! Maybe when we cross our own wake in 2020.

And we do love the new boat, I hope we still have an appetite for another boat in five years or so as a Nordhavn would be perfect and the new 55 affordable by then....

But that 62 is a cracker I think....
 
Surely coming on here saying talk me out of buying a proper bit of kit is reverse physiology :)

We are lacking in new boat threads. It’s only Vas keeping us going!

Not sure to agree with that.
It's been a while since the last time I've been onboard a 62 - and also a 57, just to mention another Nordie of the same generation.
But only a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to make an extensive viewing of a 63, a model which shares the hull with the 60 (which in turn was derived by the 55), and which was meant to replace the glorious 62, with her stern superstructure.
Long story short, imho the N63 - aside from being actually smaller, in spite of her name - is not a patch on the N62 also in terms of general construction.
Building boats in a world-class Taiwanese yard with a very respectable tradition like Ta Shing vs. somewhere much cheaper in the People's Republic DOES make a difference, in more ways than one.
If this weren't true (thanks God!), the whole EU boating industry would be history by now.

There's an easy fix for that, change your priorities.
In life, being too busy with something else usually means being busy making money.
If you are already in a position to purchase a boat like that, money ain't the right priority anymore. :encouragement:

I did an 8 week voyage in a nordy 60 a few years back - I delivered it to Gibraltar with 2 crew then did malta, geneo and antibes with the owner. The boat was brand new.

The 60 has the bridge further forward and the owner found the vertical motion that far forward made him sick.

I hit some serious weather in Biscay, lost a stabiliser and the boat got knocked down by a rogue wave in the dark as we went off the edge of the shelf, just as the crew was zig zagging for me to get the safety pin in the stabiliser 3 floors below!

Despite the scare, the boat felt so solid and ocean capable. We sorted niggles and even did an engine service in the middle of biscay so I got to know the boat inside and out. They aren't a Fleming though. There is an element of mass production to them, with it's pros and cons.

After 8 weeks aboard I really didn't want to give it back, and if I ever had the means (unlikely/impossible), I'd seriously consider one. The bridge aft design of the 62 looks good, though the sheer commanding height of the fly on the 60 made you feel good! From the wheelhouse you looked down at the flybridges of 70 ft boats, from the fly you looked down on everything!

If you can afford it and want to spend extended periods on extended cruises I'd be surprised if you were disappointed with one.

The 55 and 52 have circumnavigated many times although I agree, given the choice and all other things being equal, you'd take the 62

We've had this conversation before P. According to Nordhavn, the 63 was never meant to replace the 62. The story was that they got a customer who wanted an aft wheelhouse design like the 62 and Nordhavn offered him a redesigned 60. Nordhavn never marketed the boat as a direct replacement for the 62. In fact if you look on their website they are quite open about the fact that the 63 is another iteration of the 55/60. Yes, I don't doubt that the Taiwanese boats were built like brick outhouses but there has to be a balance struck between build strength and affordability. The Chinese built boats have proved themselves many times as capable ocean crossers and in any case it would have been commercial suicide if Nordhavn had downgraded build quality to such an extent that it damaged their core values

LOL, obviously they forgot to tell that to their sales reps... :D

Ref. build quality, I'm not saying that their Chinese boats are garbage, but if you just open some hatches, the differences between the 57/62 (both built by Ta Shing) and the 55/60/63 are not too hard to see.
Tbh, construction quality went downhill with other builders too in the last couple of decades, also without moving the construction around the world, but you already know that as well as I do!
