Non toxic antifreeze

Non toxic antifreeze is required in solar water heating systems. Presumably in case of any leakage between the water in the panel, and the domestic water.

Its also used in heat transfer systems in food processing I beleive. "Coolflow" is the name I know of.

Don't know anything about it but there is apparently an additive that can be used in ethylene glycol based fluids that makes them non toxic ! http://www.hydratech.co.uk/news.html

There are sources of propylene glycol based antifreeze which were in my original post .

Force4 offer one of the Star brite products http://www.force4.co.uk/9572/Starbrite-Anti-Freeze---50deg-C-.html

This is what prompted the original post but following all the rubbish from another argumentative forumite I deleted it.

IIRC there is at least one other propylene glycol based Starbrie antifreeze which you will find on their website and available from other on line chandlers.

Also there is an "Aquafax" propylene glycol based antifreeze which is available from Marine Megastore (:(:(:( and possibly from camping and carvanning outlets.

I hope this helps
you need to look closely at the different Starbrite ones to unravel the temperature figures ( basically they do one for -200 F one for -100F and one for -50F. these get confused with degrees C I think)

Freeze Ban seems to be a popular one in the USA for RV water sytems etc and this is the data sheet which tells all ......Almost! Certainly better than some products for boat water systems.

Not inhibited for use as an engine antifreeze but until I saw the ad for the Starbrite PG antifreezes Freezeban was the only one I knew of readily available in the Uk. There must be others but I've no idea what they are and Googling never found any others apart from Coolflow.

What is about RVs that makes it necessary to add antifreeze to the water system rather than draining it? Lazy owners ?

It can be very difficult to fully drain down the water heater and the gas/electric ones are quite pricey to replace after frost damage.

non toxic anti freeze

often used in boats that have a heat exchanger system to heat domestic water, fail safe in case drinking water supply is mixed with hot water in hopefully closed loop

also regular car or truck anti freeze is toxic to humans and animals and kills many animals each year

same price as regular anti freeze and available for rv's

In 1981, when serving with the Army in Germany, duty free vodka was so cheap we used to use it as an antifreeze in our windscreen washer bottles. Question is, how non-toxic is cheap vodka? I confess, I don't recall ever drinking it being more of a gin and whisky drinker myself.
