Our elderly Labrador (12) struggles with the grp deck. We don’t have teak laid or anything so he can’t grip very well and his hind legs tend to buckle. This means we can’t use the boat with him onboard. Only when in the marina and stationary.
If family friends are not available we can’t offload him either so, is there a roll up matting that could be utilised in the deck to give the poor old boy some traction and allow us to take him with us ?
Any one have this problem and over come it ? Thanks

As off the wall as this may sound, knowing your boat and how you use it that is, but bathroom carpet. The rationale being it will be softer and more comfortable on his paw pads and affords him a place to lay down. I couldn't keep my staffie off my vinyls as he flatly refused to settle on the non slip grp until I lay a carpet down. Yes you will need to roll it up and store when not on the boat but it's a small price to pay.
Tape plastic backing to the underside and use carpet press studs to fix in the corners

Apologies. I was thinking of the dog not your sense of taste. Teak then, anti slip is it's primary purpose, looks darn smart too.
Yeah and it’s only a snip at £4K !!
She’s do anything for that dog, just won’t lay carpet for him !

I'm all out of ideas then. Watch his pads if he's old and shaky, rubber or grit based surfaces could abrade them if he's unable to settle. As above my staffie will not go near any anti slip when the boat is in motion and he's thick as two short planks.

Rubber backed carpet mats, huge range of colours/sizes, not dear either, our dog seems to find them okay.
Ebay/amazon, b+m, The Range, the kind of shops women seem to spend ages in!

Ours has a small rubber backed mat , which we wet in the Med heat to sit on and keep cool .
A separate artificial grass mat to pee only on , which we rinse out at the dock when washing the boat .
He seems ok on the none slip paint surface in the cockpit ....moving about etc .

Green pee mat , on the other side .Easy to hose the whole thing down when returning to port .
If we are out for longer periods we get the tender out and take him ashore for no 2 s btw .

I'm not one for toy dogs but I have to confess he's one helluva cute little dog.
As for paw pads my grp non slip deck is comprised of these 1-2mm high little square pyramids that are actually quite sharp underfoot and especially if I have been in the water a scuff of foot across them is very abrasive. Kneeling on it is very uncomfortable and although I say paw pads it's probably more correct to say elbow and knee pads of my mutt. We carpeted the entire cockpit deck as much for our comfort as his.
